Yes she wanted out of the Philippines but she wasn't working in the bars so I wasn't concerned about diseases. We was talking marriage but I found out about the lies. I understand she pulled the pregnancy thing, her last chance to be with me or get out of the Philippines.

Filipino girls are really pretty, it is easy to get caught up in the moment.

That wasn't always the case! When the bases were still there (Clark & Subic) the girls in the bar were checked on a weekly basis for VD. It was the freelancers who didn't work in the bars you had to watch out for.

Funny story... first time I was TDY to Clark my buddy came down with the clap. I drove him to the base hospital. Their VD clinic was located in the basement of the hospital. After signing in and explaining why he was there they handed him a big photo album with pictures of all the different girls. It was categorized by the bar they worked in. He had to point out the girls he had been with so they could be tracked down and tested or treated. I have to admit as I sat there next to him looking through the album I was amazed there were that many sex workers at Clark!!!

and not visiting a beach resort or a fancy hotel in a 3rd world country, get out there where the people live and spend a few days/nights living with them like they do.

When we stay at my in-laws there are rats that run through the room at night (over you) while sleeping, open sewage running down the side of the road because some people don't have indoor plumbing. It is humbling.

In the age of the Internet, it shouldn't take international travel to realize there are a lot of shit-hole countries and the USA is (all things considered) pretty darned nice.

Regarding my earlier comment, though, using third-world countries like match.com seems like asking for trouble.

Whenever I visit another country, third world or otherwise, or even another state, I always try to make it a point to walk among those who live there and see the places they go to. I go to a grocery store and see what's available and what it costs. When I was a printer, I used to try and find a print shop and go introduce myself and talk to them about the business there. I found a print shop in Jamaica and the owner was very friendly and showed me around. He was very proud of his business and equipment, which looked like stuff we junked 20 years ago. But somehow he kept it running and made a living. Hats off to him, but it made me a little happier to be working where I was back home.

They had the same thing in Korea in the early 80's, from what I have been told anyhow.

No, I avoided the Philippines due to the stories, but I know many men that have been there and married to Filipinos so I took a chance, met a nice girl, was communicating for 10 months, got some red flags which I investigated, found out she lied to me, small lie but a lie is a lie, so I let her go.

I am trying to recover, I was hanging out with 2 Thai girls today!

But in the Philippines they are still happy people living they way they do, I was surprised to see how little her family had and was willing to make food and share with me, and was happy I was there in their house with them.

I agree you have to be careful and I have learned a lot and still learning by doing online dating in Asia. But online dating in the US isn't much better, maybe not 3rd world desperate, but I know many that found out the online dating is full of crazy people.
