our state law says that the assessment on your home cannot go up more than 3% from the prior year (excepting improvements).

so our assessment showed up today. did the math. they increased it one dollar less than the maximum permitted. weasels.

Substitute "school tax" and welcome to my world. PA needs to change the law concerning the "open checkbook" of the school boards.

Regardless of what the citizens say to the school boards at the meetings, the MFers do whatever they want

Taxes were $2200 when we bought the house on .891 acre in 2003. We'll top $5K this year

I paid 165k for my house in Monkey Co. Faryland, outside DC......in '90, after the divorce where I let her stay in the house the kids were born in, keep them stable as possible.....almost ten years later, kids old enough to flip south on a plane, I put house on market.....tried to sell it for 200k, which was a gift to any purchaser, but no go, the backyard garage killed all sales due to snotty women....1/4 acre lot...so after TWO YEARS on the market, it went for 165, what I paid, BUT purchaser paid ALL BS charges, and NO R/E agent....

AND my taxes when I bought the joint were only 1500/year.....guess what?? the largest reason I sold it cheep WAS...that county bill for 2200 bux, and the projected increase in the coming 3 years to 5500 bux/year......

The little unimportant state of Delaware (The state was named after the Delaware River, which in turn derived its name from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr (1577–1618), has of late attracted the high taxed flight folks from the north, tons of them. New housing communities going up all over the place.

Reason, lower taxes, that's why I got the hell out of Maryland about 10 years ago.

An example, acre & 1/4, with my senior discount on property tax..........$648......A YEAR!!!!!

yep; their have a right to:
free food
free housing
free healthcare
free college

all they need do in return is vote a straight democrat ticket... each election... multiple times. Think about it, that's one helluva deal for them.

This part of PA (NJ border and a fat hour from NYC and Philly) has gone way up for the same reason as a few others listed. 42% of the Lehigh Valley are NY metro area transplants (as are wife and I)

We have just under half an acre with 5k sq ft of home and are $8k a year in property taxes.

Although our mailing address is Bethlehem, we are in Hanover Twp which is a great are, very good schools etc. but still, these are Western NJ taxes not Pennsyltuckey.

One of our rental properties in Bethlehem is 3500 sq ft on 1/4 acre and taxes are only $4k.

Our property tax here in Missouri is very reasonable, I think we pay about $1200/year or so. But we do have a state income tax, so there's that.

When we left Illinois, the taxes on our 5000 square foot house on just under an acre lot were $11K per year and the street was falling apart in front of our house. Just one of any reasons we wanted to GTFO
