Default Remember Iron Butterfly...

Iron Butterfly bassist Lee Dorman dies at age 70

Quote:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lee Dorman, the bassist for psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly, has died at age 70.

Orange County sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Krause says Dorman was found dead in a vehicle Friday morning. A coroner's investigation is under way, but foul play is not suspected.

Krause said Dorman may have been on his way to a doctor's appointment when he died.

Iron Butterfly was formed and rose to prominence in the late 1960s. Its second album, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida," sold more than 30 million copies, according to the band's website. The title track's distinctive notes have been featured in numerous films and TV shows including "The Simpsons," ''That '70s Show" and in the series finale of "Rescue Me."

Douglas Lee Dorman was born in September 1942 and had been living in Laguna Nigel, a coastal city in Southern California, when he died.

I got to see Iron Butterfly in 1971. They did a good concert and did this song for close to 1/2 hr. I remember hearing that the name of the song was In The Garden of Eden but when Lee Doorman sang it it came out as In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. May he rest in peace and be blessed by God.

I wish I hadn't gone to so many concerts myself. I'd have more high-frequency hearing and less ringing in the ears.

Through the late 60's, 70's and 80's when ever a band came to this area I went to see them. I have always liked live concerts.

Still have the vinyl LP and still listen to it now and then.

For his time, Erik Brann was doing some incredible guitar work on that song. This was just one year after hendrix' first album. Brann was 17 years old.

OK so who else played the game? You start with a group of friends, each armed with a six pack of their favorite beer. Start In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and open your first beer, drink. When the song is over 18 minutes later your six pack needs to be gone. Anyone not done is out. REPEAT until there is a winner.
