Default Puppy stereo........

A grandson to wife's sister, pulled out a really small stereo radio/player in front of his 3 month old puppy.....and set it on the couch, dawg did not know what to make of it, head with slightly different music drifting next to it's nose, so it was twisting it's head back and forth all curious as to watt was going on...funny as hell to watch all 3 of us laughing.....

these will do, Wilson Audio WATT Puppies. I'll bet they could rock some McIntosh kit.

Overpriced but very nice sound quality.

Last pair I heard was their Alexx equivalent at the time (3-4 years ago) Very nice, clean sound but for $150K+ I'd look elsewhere and pocket the difference; a very big difference.
Their little book shelf speakers are $10k a pair.

If you are referring to the Alidas, I just checked them out and it looks like they are using ScanSpeak midwoofers.

Was looking at the TuneTots and it does look like Scanspeak. I know Magico uses their drivers as well.

Audio is such a game of diminishing returns, it's all about finding the sweet spot where you can.
I've been on a Legacy audio run for the last 7-8 years. Incredible sound for the money.

A lot of these speaker companies use outsourced drivers. Nothing wrong with ScanSpeak at all.

You are quite right about the diminishing returns. I have a thing for two-way speakers. Don't exactly know why. I built these a few years back. Not bookshelfs, as you need three or four feet behind them, but compact nonetheless. ScanSpeak midwoofers and Hiquphon tweeters. They will run with anything up to $3,700 or $3,800. I've got $950 in them. 1-1/2" wall thickness all around for the cabinets. 2" dia. x 7" long vent in the back. Will give you an F3 at 38 Hz. Not bad for their size. They are actually deeper than they are tall.

Very solid cabinets. 38 Hz in room from what 6.5" drivers? Where did you cross them over?

Many folks trying to get to a flat 20 Hz for music. Like dude, what do you listen to digitized pipe organ music?

Most audio nuts swear by 2 way unless you're using a pricey DSP.
Much smoother cross over points and fewer internal parts for the signal path.

I'd love to have time to build custom cabinets with AMT tweets and SEAS or Scanspeak mid woofs. Active biamped config with 2 subs just to see how close you could get to the what the big boys are putting out.

They're crossovers are at just over 2,500 Hz. The Hiquphon OW1s are amazing.

I am leery of the Air Motion Transformers. Sure, they sound good, but for how long? I would fear "listener fatigue" setting in such as you get with ribbons or beryllium domes.

Agreed with the Be tweets like Focal uses. Very hard to tame and too harsh for me.
The AMTs in my Legacy Aeris have been great (to my ears) and are not fatiguing at all. Very light yet accurate.

If you're ever in the area (Lehigh Valley PA) we do audio shootouts with a few other audio nuts and we play with new gear to see how it sounds paired with different gear in different rooms.

Ferreted out a lot of snake oil and had some fun along the way.

Their FR charts look damn awesome. They're not priced ridiculous either. I may just snatch me up a set for use in my home theater setup. Thanks Tikiman
