People love to trash California. So what. Every place has its ups and downs, everything has a price. The important thing is what’s important to you. LA, NYC, Bimini, the bread basket, or the Alps, or the Great Plains. If you can, go and do what makes you happy. Never thought I’d love where I am but I’ve never been happier and I don’t want to be anywhere else. Today. Tomorrow, who knows.

Politics aside, yes. It really is that great to live here.

Bakersfield to the SFV is about 90 miles. No one really considers it as part of greater LA. I don’t know anyone that commutes from there. But for this one employee, only having to be in the office once a month is a game changer.

Lots of people commute from Palmdale and Lancaster all day long, though. That’s 40-50 miles. Housing is cheap out there. Again, cheap being 400k for a descent sized home. You used to be able to buy a little closer (Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, Valencia) and get affordable homes but not any more.

My daughter, who lives in CA, went out to a restaurant to eat yesterday. I picked up take out sushi from a restaurant with a significant outdoor eating area. NJ still will not allow the restaurant to serve people, even out doors.

My wife made me one that is more comfortable than a bandana, because the local gestapo made it clear that if your retail space is allowed to be open, it must have a "mask required" sign, and if the retailer is not enforcing it, they will be shut down. So, no mask, no beer. I knuckled under.
