Default Fun car ideas...

My job allows me to work more and more from home these days so my historic 20k miles per year is dropping drastically.

As such, I am looking for something fun to drive for the couple of days a week that I do need to go into the office. I will still have my truck for the trucks things and the current plan is to keep the Escalade for the Escalade things.

The current daily driver is the Audi S6. As far as a daily car goes, it is hands down the best I have had. I love everything about it. ...but in the end, it's a 4 door sedan and I am in the mood to buy something a little more dumberer.

I don't mind some additional maintenance but it has to be something that can be driven back and forth to work a couple of times a week, 40 miles each way. Back seats are a huge bonus although I would potentially be swayed to a 2 seater. The amount I want to spend is negotiable depending on how much I decide I want something but I don't feel like spending that datawiz baller money.

A few of my dumbass ideas to date:

Gen 2 GTS Viper - just always wanted one. I have been working on a 1999 ACR but they guy just doesn't want to come to reality on the price.

Aston DB9 - same as the Viper, just like them, but the reliability ...

Audi RS6 Avant - Because who doesn't love wagons

Any of about a gazillion Porsches. The problem with that one is that if I do pull the trigger on one after this many years, I don't think I would go for anything that doesn't have "GT" in it's name which would likely push me out of the budget that I want to spend.

I've also considered going the other way, keeping the S6 and rolling the Escalade down the road for an RSQ8.

No, I don't want a C7 or a C8. I want to like them. I really do. But I just... don't like them enough to write the check. The only Vette that has made the list would be a C6 ZR1 but it would have to be the perfect color and trim combo (and I don't even know what that is).

Get an EV. Start six threads a week talking about all the hot meals you enjoy while waiting for it to charge.

It would have to be a restomod if I went that route. I don't need a plush, luxurious ride, but I do need something that doesn't mind 80mph down the highway.

I've looked at many classics, trucks, Chevelle/ElCamino, etc. I absolutely love them, but they don't quite meet the reliability requirements that I am looking for. If I go that route, I want a beautiful, perfect car. I should have also listed in my requirements that while it has to be something that is nice, but also not something that would make me cry when it gets rock chips, etc from being driven.

I agree and that vehicle will push 100 large. A hard pill to swallow.

I would not consider a C8.
If you were to consider a C7, I would do GS or C7Z, man pedal a must, no vert, and look into extended warranty if available.
If you opt for the C7, do not park in Greater Toronto Area!!

I won't lie, I almost drove to Wisconsin this weekend...

I have always wanted a Gen 2, but this one is just, yea.

Bonus points that they also have this as an option.

This is interesting. I just configured one for fun and it was about $150k, but a steal compared to the Urus. 2018-1029 GT3s can be found for about $170k if you look hard enough. One thing to consider about the GT3, you can almost ignore depreciation compared to other cars....except for the Viper.

That depreciation is a big part of it and would somewhat help justify the GT3/GT4 or the Viper

I have an Audi dealer that "owes me one" and can get a pretty smokin deal on either an RS6 or an RSQ8. The wife REALLY wants an RSQ8. Drove one a couple of months ago and it is absolutely spectacular.

Problem is, either of the Audi options will be worth about half (or less) of what I pay 2 years from now.

Did I miss the part of that thing called...budget? McLaren as stated earlier. Most 650S are Spyder but here's a coupe that's relatively cheap. Buy it, drive it, and sell it for just about what you paid for it down the road. There's also the Audi R8 (Gen 2 V10 Plus or Performance). Reliable, fast, exotic, killer V10 sound.

I've been there a few times. They have some amazing vehicles!

Hey OP, here are two inexpensive cars that, to me, would be a lot of fun:

Well that's interesting. I didn't realize they were around for that price.

With that said, I would have to educate myself on that one a bit more. I'm not too scared of Viper or Porsche maintenance.

I'd need to take a look at what the McLaren consists of.

Thanks for posting that. I have definitely looked at the Gen 2 R8 as well. That Audi dealer that "owes me one" has a 2017 in the showroom right now that is tempting.
