Battery technology is already there for 600 mile range, 10 minute charging time. At such a battery size, a 10% degradation over 200k miles isn't a big deal. Of course, to scale and produce sufficient of those batteries will take a while. If range and cost are at ICE car levels, 70%+ will be willing to switch to EV's. We are still several years from that happening. As I said, the technology does already exist.

Maybe a little. But not atrocious. And while Ford had the choked up 272-292 Y-block V8's with about 200 hp, the Edsel could be had with the big block 410-430 CID monsters. The 430 Edsel was one of the fastest cars on the road at the time, easily able to outrun a Corvette on the open road.

That is a '59 model, not as gaudy as a '58. With a 410 big block V8 and full ladder frame construction, quite capable of hauling that camper shell around.

Looks like more than just a shell to me. I'd love to learn more about it. Is the trunk lid removed and its sitting in the trunk, or is the camper as short as it looks and sitting on the fenders? What is the interior of the camper like? I can see the appeal in that traveling would be much more comfortable than driving a 1959 truck.

I'd guess the trunk lid has been removed and the camper is sitting in the trunk well. The trunk on this car is thick guage metal, and attaches the frame rails. I'll bet it's running a reinforced frame and overload springs.
I agree....my first thought when I saw it was 'what a comfortable way for a family to travel instead of trying to fit 4 crammed on the single seat of a slow, clumsy, power-nothing '59 pickup. The Edsel has room to spare, rear seat cigarette lighters, AC, power steering and brakes, auto trans, etc. Total improvement over a pickup of that era.

I hope for a longer range version. The battery pack is only half full, so, they can easily give the truck 600+ mile range but that would hurt their production capacity. Once they can produce sufficient 4680 cells, there is a chance that we will see a 500+ mile range version.
