Your boss might just be an oblivious idiot who has been living under a rock.

It's a bloodbath out there and this guy may well have been busting his ass all this time doing jobs or something else he'd rather not include in his resume.

Another decimated field is law. If, God-forbid, I can't find ANYTHING after graduation, I'd have to go back to retail management.

What am I going to do in that case? Put down my JD on resumes and get avoided like the plague, or put nothing and risk people like your boss stereotyping and thinking "humm, obviously Will has been a lazy asshole for the past 3 years"

I casually asked him how the phone interview went the other day and he said the guy had a recent criminal record and would not pass the background check so he thanked him for his time.. That's it. I didn't press him any further as it was non of my business to begin with.

I am skeptical of people who "choose" not to work for "a while" because they have a lot of money. A while like a 3-6 month gap, maybe. But 3 years? That tells me at least they don't like to work.... Not sure I would hire someone who has proven they prefer not to work......

Now if they said they were taking care of family, raising kids, or actively looking for a job, that is a different story. But if they just say "well, I did not have to work because I did not need the money"....... Then they clearly do not want to work, and are only doing it for the money, so why hire them? As soon as they "don't need the money" again, they will quit.
