This all is recorded on a DVR, and the software is run via my PC. I can zoom in on any particular window, and playback anything I want, but the entire console is run from my computer. It's all POE (power over ethernet) so no wifi to be hacked, and I control the firewall, so these cameras, and what they see, are not available to the outside world.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere where I thought I needed 16 security camera. There are far better places to live.

Tech geek, and because I can, and also, I can't see out my front window in the office. We live in a gated community in one of the best zip codes in SW FL, so crime "should" not be an issue....but...

Having said that, we've had break-ins in the past in the neighborhood where the criminals come in via the drainage flow way behind my house. Whole system was a minimal expense for me, and I'm tickled that I finally maxed out the number of cameras I have, as I had blind spots.

I'm not totally internal and really have not found a traffic cop that gives me any good info. My internal stuff does operate on rf, so always a vulnerability. Encryption is always under threat of more GPU's, but once you get up to sixteen or twenty characters, it's pretty solid.

I was wondering if you could channel that feed to all of your HDTVs,
say you were watching TV in the front room or bedroom & heard a noise outside, could you select another HDTV input B or C & see all of the camera feeds from the room you are in, or do you have to walk into the office-PC room to only view from a single location ?

it seems like it would be a nice ability to see all of the camera feeds from any HDTV room location you are in .

Kind of like the new inside garage night-vision view. Excuse the mess, the pile of boxes by the fan is all the new stuff that the electrician is installing. Despite being messy, I'm pretty proud of having 4 cars, a law tractor, a lift, and a huge tool chest, and full-size fridge/freezer in a 3 car garage.

Gotta protect the toys, right? Got to black out the top of the fridge to get that whiteness away to allow more contrast throughout the rest of the garage.

What brand(s) of cameras?

And what do you mean by "private?" Technically anyone behind a NAT gateway is on a "private IP network" but if you plug a Chinese IP camera in it can still "phone home" to the servers in China.

Hopefully you mean isolated IP network where your cameras connect ONLY to your DVR and have no access to the rest of your home network or to the Internet.

Same here though my cameras are going to be a winter project. And someone else said bad guys don't go to bad neighborhoods to steal nice stuff.



What software are you running? I was thinking of Blue Iris and maybe Code Red.

I run the FOSS Linux version of Blue Iris, but it has some limitations so I'm considering switching to Frigate. The Windows (paid) version of BI is much better, but it only runs on Windows so it's a non-starter for me.

I have a lot of footage of DoorDouchers.

One of my goals is to develop some AI to automatically detect and notify me when a car pulls up and parks. Then I can dispatch the sentry robot with the paintball gun.
