Default Electrical problem on Marco

I think I know the answer already....

(All symptoms are intermittent)

Symptom #1, The RAP (Retained Accessory Power) is staying on even after I open the driver's door.....ie....the radio keeps playing after shutting the car off, removing the key, and opening the door. Opening the passenger door causes everything to go off.

Symptom #2, interior lights not coming on when I open the drivers door. They do come on when I open the pass door.

Symptom #3, The power locks are "toggling" (for lack of a better word).....ie...I can hear the solenoids activating in the unlock position (fortunately) at random.

I think I've narrowed it down to the plunger switch in the door. The last time it acted up, I tried wiggling the switch back and forth by hand, and it caused the power locks to toggle nearly continually.

I'll dig into the wiring diagrams in the FSM today, but if anyone has a quick answer, that will work too. Does the plunger switch control the R.A.P. ? I can see where the PDL would be tied in, as they lock when the door is shut and the car is put in Drive.

What say ye?

Are these problems grounds to DQ Marco from the March C4 Of the Month?

I spayed a buch of silicone lube on my door switch on my old 95- the PKE was acting up because it diodn't know that the door closed.

btw, the best silicone lube ever is Yamalube (go to a motorcycle shop). They sell it for the watercraft to coat the engines etc.

Yep, it was the switch. The small plunger is seized inside the larger one. I can pry it out with a screwdriver, but the switch is toast. The pass side isn't much better. Ordered two new ones from Willcox.

Holy crap. A legitimate question asked and a follow up report given when the problem was found.

Glad to hear it was the easy answer.

I don't know if your switches are like my '85s but just in case they are, when you install them close the door gently so the plunger can retract slowly. If you close the door as you normally would it could snap the new switches right off.

Nobody's gonna hit on this easy one? Mike's spaying things in the dog's thread!?! I would've thought Friz would've been heading for the hills with tail and doggycone securly tucked away at the mention of this.

I notice the cat has not appeared in this thread- apparently he's smarter than he's been given credit for.

Never mind, he's as dumb as ever, I just overlooked him.
