Default If you're happy and you know it... - new study finds money increases happiness

wow....strong science there.

https://www.foxnews.com/lifestyle/no...enn-university

Quote:
It turns out mo’ money may actually mean mo’ smiles.

While traditional wisdom tells us that money can’t buy happiness, a new study suggests that the opposite may in fact be true. The research also indicates that previous studies, which indicated some sort of limit to the amount of money that impacts happiness, may have been wrong.

Matthew Killingsworth, a senior fellow at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, recently released his findings on the relationship between money and well-being, Penn Today reports. His research reportedly differed from previous studies on this subject, which ranked participants’ happiness based on their overall satisfaction with life.

Previous research also suggested that the relationship between money and happiness seemed to plateau for people making $75,000 per year or more.

The study's author claims that "all forms of well-being continued to rise with income," despite previous research indicating that happiness plateaus for those making $75,000 or above.

Killingsworth asked his participants to rank their happiness using an app that would randomly check-in with them, from time to time. The app would ask questions ranging from "How do you feel right now?" and "Overall, how satisfied are you with your life?" This allowed Killingsworth to rank users’ happiness both in how they felt overall, and how they felt in the moment.

"Scientists often talk about trying to get a representative sample of the population," he told Penn Today. "I was trying to get a representative sample of the moments of people’s lives."

More than 33,000 people participated in the study — and in the end, Killingsworth says the data showed that "all forms of well-being continued to rise with income."

"When you have more money, you have more choices about how to live your life. You can likely see this in the pandemic. People living paycheck to paycheck who lose their job might need to take the first available job to stay afloat, even if it’s one they dislike. People with a financial cushion can wait for one that’s a better fit," he explained.

"Across decisions big and small, having more money gives a person more choices and a greater sense of autonomy."
i'm willing to give a try...

Definitely a balance between what you owe(or don't owe) and money you make.
Too many get in over their heads and stresses them out thus money relieves the stress making happier.

Money may not buy happiness, but I would rather cry in my Corvette than on a bus.

It's no shame to be poor. Then again, it's no great honor, either.

My stress levels have declined precipitously over 2020 while COVID was driving everyone else to insanity. We're hitting our financial stride. Stress is melting away. I'm closing in on 40 though, probably time to start a mid-life crisis workout/exercise regimen before things go south physically in a hurry.

Don't bother. You are approaching the age where your body will only fail more quickly if you stress it too much. Maintain but slow down a bit... enjoy yourself but work on becoming aware of the physical and mental changes that you will notice in a couple years despite whatever mad endeavors you might still be able to accomplish presently. I know a lot of folk who hurt themselves fighting aging instead of embracing it.

You should get the misses to buy you a sports car, like, oh, I don't know, a Corvette, and then you can join a cool car forum!

It's amazing how COVID has ****ed some people over completely and yet been a boon to others. You and I and Lex Bezos are some of the lucky ones, but I personally know some people who fall into the other bucket.

Best advice ever heard was from a 78 year old man who could out work me at 20...he owned a bar until he retired then bought a farm. Said he saw too many people retire and die from just sitting around. Movement key to living he said and made it well into 90s even with some serious health issues. Diabetes took one of his legs and he couldn't get around much and that was his downfall.
Personally i think he knew his wife was bat crap crazy and just didn't want to be in the house with her...

Not what I intended to say. Back when the Insanity! workout was "a thing" several of my peers and near peers injured themselves permanently trying to prove to themselves that they could still do everything they could as younger men. Ditto for free weights, jump aerobics or whatever.
Maintain activity, but be aware you will not necessarily bounce back from even mild strains and sprains like you did in your 20s or 30s,,, or 50s even.
