Default A little automotive help please.

Changing the front struts on my 2007 Frontier. The bottom bolt is supposedly 210 ft/ lbs. Just bought a new impact that goes to 650 ft/ lbs and will not even budge the nut. What really sucks is that is the last bolt to come loose and I have to put everything back together to run into town again an d get more stuff. All my good work tools are in a hangar 125 miles away or I'm sure I would have gotten it by now.

Is there something I'm missing here? Any tricks other than about 4 feet of cheater bar?

I have no idea about Frontiers, but any chance it's a left handed thread?

Or the nut is welded to the knuckle or strut and you are supposed to remove the bolt from the other side?

Oh BTW the PB Blaster will do all the work. Smacking it with a big ass hammer is just to make you feel better.

I just now opened the link in the first post and I see which nut/bolt you are talking about. If you have no other transportation, I would suggest putting it back together without changing the strut on that side of the vehicle until you can get a new nut and bolt to replace that one. If you put a cheater bar on there now and break the bolt, you are SOL.

This. ^^

Just PB Blast that thing and let it sit. You may need to let it soak for a few hours. You might smack it with a hammer to vibrate it after letting the oil do its work - but be careful not to bend the rod.

The only reason I haven't cut it off. The nut is moving back and forth about a 16th" so I guess it has splines on the facing surface. With all the load of the bolt will not budge at all. No corrosion either.

I would try PB Blaster first and then heat. If those two don't work, it's time to break out the BFH.

Not smack, tap.

Although I imagine he's tried that already.

Before A DOPE' went nutz , I had a 1/2 page d/loaded and it locked up nasty....hate that company....

at any rate I saw enough of the page to see only one nut there marked 210 something, like a torque reading....and it looked like a later/horizontal bolt/nut holding the strut....THAT the one?? if so it can't be larger than say 1/2" diameter, and there is NO way it's that tight....not compared to a ball joint say....

I"d take a angle cutter and cut the damn thing,

there is simply NO BOLT ON A NORMAL SIZE MOTOR VEHICLE THAT IS 210? ft lbs torque on it.....period....not even trailer hitch balls....

and that includes my motor home....

Have you tried getting the pressure off the bolt, maybe put the bolts back on the strut so its held in place then you might be able to break it loose. Where in florida are you?

No load what so ever, spring is compressed and can move the strut up and down. You know I'm in deep shit when I ask for mechanical help, but this is jap crap engineering. I'm in Sebring.
