We know people who live there, and visit annually. So we get to see the real NYC.

That pizza looks great!........We enjoyed our time in NYC. I accompanied my Wife on a business trip for Koch Industries. David Koch had bought Jackie Kennedy Onasis' old apartment........(the whole fifth floor of a building overlooking Central Park), and my Wife was finalizing some legals for the sale. he paid $10 mil for the place, and completely gutted it down to the concrete pillars, and spent probably double that on the refurb.......anyway, had one of the best steaks I have ever had at Windows Of The World at the World Trade Center.......still can't get my head around the fact it is not there anymore.

Funny short story: I was at the Empire State Building, and wanted to buy a little crystal momento........well my CC was out of date, and I didn't have enough cash for the purchase, I was like $10 bucks short. So I told the guy he could have the cash, and I told him I ain't coming back!

It was so funny, cuz I know the guy still made money on this trinket, but it pained the guy so bad, because he thought a plowboy from Kansas was getting over on his New Yorker slick salesman azz..........

I don't see it through any glasses. I went up there for a purpose. For me was to enjoy NY Pizza and show my daughter touristic locations.
Everything worked out perfect. I don't like NY politics just like I don't like CA politics but that doesn't mean that I can't appreciate food and sights there. NY has some of the best food.

I've been to Chicago and like Chicago style pizza. However, I prefer thin crust NY style.

Please post pics from your upcoming San Francisco trip. I'm looking forward to hearing how the media is wrong about that city too.

I won't have to pay for groceries in the Bay area. Shoplifting is not a crime

I miss Luzzo's on the lower east side, and Motorino on the upper. No issue in going back. It's better than Frisco. SF took a serious dive and now there are empty blocks.

Oliver,
You are a good dad AND dood!!

Put Cafe Du Monde on the list for a good trip with your daughter.

I did it many years back, wifey and two daughters, great time, and it was my oldest daughter's birthday when we went to the restaurant.
There was a dood on the sidewalk playing an accordion, I asked him to play Happy Birthday for her, gave him a $20, she stood up while he played, the entire restaurant stood up when he was done and applauded,,, a great memory!!

We went there when she was little.. like 5 or 6 years old. She is 11 now.

We just stopped at the Covington Cafe du Monde (not the original one in New Orleans) during the Thanksgiving holiday last year.

I like to visit NYC even though I could not envision living there. There is a huge difference between visiting and living there. I wouldn't want to live in that area if you paid me.

Pretty sure I went to the original one, a lot of outside tables under an awning, St. Louis Cathedral was a few hundred feet away.
It was crowded, I think we waited 30 minutes for a table, well worth the wait.

I have a nephew and niece that share an apartment on West 79th.
I have a nephew, married with two young kids, that lives in Astoria Queens.
I enjoy visiting them and doing the Manhattan thing, but have also concluded it is a lifestyle for young people, not a lot of conveniences, and very over-priced.
The subway has gotten very scary.

Yes, that's the original one.. They have many other locations as well. We always stop at the one in Covington when we drive to South Texas, either on the way there or on the way back.

Prices for housing are crazy there unless you are on rent control. Apartments are suuuuuper small and having a car makes no sense. Travelling by car is something that I wouldn't live without and therefore, city living like NYC is not for me.
