Haggerty valuation has "fair" at good coin. I'd offer 1/3 of that, prepare to go to half of it.

Dang! The dollar sure ain't worth shit anymore. I remember about 3 years ago ugly duckling '59-60's went for peanuts. I passed on a '60 4x4 Panel in nice driver condition for $3500 2 years ago. FE Powered, even. It was primer black, but all there and rust free.

I just went through this a year ago- wanted a truck for a 2nd vehicle and figured a good excuse for another classic in my stable. But a new Ranger 4WD was cheaper. |

I agree 100%. Toured a first gen Bronco restoration/resurrection shop in Myrtle Beach SC in late '21 and they were getting an average of $250,000 per Bronco, all done up. Have seen MANY '69-'72 GM pickups sell for 70-100k at auction while fully restored '41 Continental convertible coupes bring 30k. Saw a '69 SS396 L-78 Nova sell yesterday for 36k....about half of what a pickup would bring. I look and see the buyers and most are obese 60-70 something white guys in cargo shorts with beards. Whatever.

Bringing this one to the top! My son and I found some time to play with the big ole 6 banger on Sunday! It's almost ready to drop back in the truck. Since I'm going back to the stock motor I've found a couple more items....rusted out choke tubes into the manifold (no one repops) I was able to drill out the remaining piece! Luck also is with me as I have two choke tubes from the 390 I can use. Next, the smog pump is frozen. I can just leave the belt off but I'd really like to either free it up or send it out for repair. Other than that, I'm thinking I should throw the carb in the trash and buy a brand new one, this one has been played with IMO not looking to good....
Stay tuned, oh...... I've yet to set the valves/rockers, never tried this before? I'll get some pictures up later! |

The POS imported engine stand is at its limit! I have another old one, but it has the kids 240Z engine hanging on it....

I'd offer my engine stand, but it is currently being used. I have a trouble light I needed to plug in and an extension cord was necessary.
Edit: I love the sight of a fresh engine. So satisfying. |

To add, these aftermarket carb never seem to be a complete unit? I have a carb rebuild kit sitting right here, but my knowledge is lacking to be honest. I’ll drop or loose one of these tiny parts and that will kill it for sure! 😆 I don’t know a guy that works on Ford carbs but that might be best? Ok you’re pretty good! |

Use blue locktight on the screws, NOT the red or green stuff. 99% of the time when working on these, they didn't need a full rebuild. Tighten the screws, verify the float setting, and pop in a new accelerator pump and you are good to go for another 40 years. Seriously. These are very simple carburetors, about as simple as a toilet, literally.
