Default GTO resto mod update

Post 7 for progress pics

I haven't posted much the last year or so. Car is done except for some interior work and a paint job.

Working out the final bugs and trying to figure out why it is backfiring/stumbling at WOT in the 3500 rpm range.

Making excellent power with a conservative tune. I told tuner I didn't want to throw a bunch of timing at it and want an NA cruiser that can handle runs on 100 degree days.

Made 565 rwh on 91 octane in an 80 degree shop.

Long about '92 or so I finished putting DPFI on my '70 Lemans/GTO 462" engine, 400 auto, 321? posi, disk brakes, convertible, and so it got published in Feb '95 issue of High Perf Pontiac Magazine.....I took a complete system off a Caddy large engine from '79 in a local junkyard.....

I used it to tow a ~25' boat over the Appalachian mountains to the upper stretch of the Potomac River near W. Va. ten miles of wide river to a dam built by Geo. Washington, obviously a national park......I used to pass cars going up a rather steep L O N G pull to mountain top, topping 100 mph at the crest sign and the warning that the long pull was over with so everybody LIFT off the gas pedal......so at the crest I was doing only 55 or so, take the first exit after that and into the park.....needless to say, the return trip was considerably slower.....

60 lb/hr injectors, not sure which company. This is a turn key, sleeved LS7 from TX Speed. (Their 675 hp long block)

We replaced every wire, line etc in the entire car, all the way to a new fuse panel.

Some cool pics of the project.

QA1 Suspension and Wilwood disc brakes installed and ready for test fitting the new powerplant

New crate from TX Speed

T56 Super Mag bolted up for fitment

Notched a little off the cradle to get it all to fit and sit as low as possible.

New Moser M9 rear with 3.73s and a new stainless 30 gal fuel tank.
I can do ~550 highway miles on a full tank of gas.

60 lbs will push 800 hp all day long and still not get much beyond 75% duty cycle.
Too much injector screws with power down low and can muck up spark plugs.

That's what I'm waiting to hear. The builder is puzzled and this guy is one of the best LS mechanics on the East coast and been building/modding these since they came out. Also a 25+ yr GM master tech.
Got us all scratching our heads.

Tuner was called in a 2nd time to review files and all looks good to him.

$$$$$$. Damn that is one sweet looking car. I don't care who you are, the '67 GTO and the '68 Charfger are the two best looking musclecars ever produced. At least in my opinion. Very nice, Sir!

The Torino-based '71-'73 Mustangs are the biggest, ugliest Mustangs ever, IMO.
I love fords, but I like '64 Comets, '65-'66 Mustang Fastbacks, and '61-'66 Galaxies. But none have the lines of the '67 GTO.
