"You should be arrested!" - my run in with a Karen in the wild

So i'm getting gas at my regular station, the pumps are lined up perpendicular to the line of the nearby road, and i normally take the pump nearest the road. As i pull in, i see that pump is taken, the one in front of it is empty, but it also offers diesel, so I leave it open and do a 180 to take the pump on the opposite side of the one i wanted to take.

I pull up, start the credit card insertion, and the gal gets out of her SUV and looks at me, tells her passenger "he doesn't have a mask, stay in the car", gets out, gives me death stare, and tells me "you need a mask", and waddles off to do something other than pump gas.

I pump away, standing by my fill port, properly monitoring my nozzle. She comes back from wherever it was that she went, with a pile of papers, gives me another death stare and says "you need a mask, you should be arrested" i just look at her, and say "have a nice day", she opens her door a little too fast and bangs the door into the nearby bollard (hint, either pull up a bit more, or park further away to avoid that). and she departs.

we were never closer than about 10 feet apart, the sun was shining, there was a gentle breeze, and I just stood there waiting for the gas tank to get filled.

and the kicker: her vanity plate said "HAVEFUN"

i should be arrested? for what? not being afraid? for enjoying God's beautiful day?

I’m an admin on two forums now (don’t ask)

It’s insane the spectrum of replies to any given situation. If you posted your story half the people would say you should have kicked her in the box and the other half would ask for your license to be suspended.

You handled it well. I know I wouldn’t have.

Last week I pulled into a mall for pet stuff. The store has 4 spots for their store only. Land Rover so far over the line I couldn’t pull up next to it to teach them a lesson.

this was about my 4th stop for the day. UPS drop off, sign says wear a mask, i wear my stupid mask. PetSmart, same thing. drive thru at the bank, mask is pointless (transaction via pneumatic tube thing), open air gas station - there is no indoor (clerk booth only, no store) space, there are no signs (wear a mask while pumping), and there is plenty of space to keep apart if you think that will make a difference.

but her rage was amazing.

yeah, i had a mask in my truck, safely resting on the center console for my next indoor stop (Walgreens).

people stay home, wear masks when out, keep apart - people still getting sick.

no masks, no keeping apart - people still getting sick.

in science terms, the input does not seem to affect the output.

just watched a youtube video on this topic, some basic stats: 99.998% survival for those under 70. 95% for those over 70. total deaths, from all causes, have not changed since 2014 (per John Hopkins study in Nov.), they've just changed what your cause of death was, mostly shifting from heart disease to Covid, but no rise in the total number of people dying each year.

Early on we were sitting outside a store waiting for it to open, a line was forming, people were staying away from each other and this guy was having a complete meltdown when someone got in line without a mask.... I decided to just not go in as I didn't have bail money. Plus everyone was taking 6 plus people in with them and I didn't need some snot licker coughing on me. I avoid crowds anyway so just went back later.

that was more of a update on life than a Bible based sermon (of which John has over 3,000 available for free download, covering all of the New Testament, and good portions of the Old Testament). i download them and listen to them when i'm in my shop or out driving to and from town. average sermon runs about an hour.
