Snow....? We're expecting above normal highs, like 18C on Thursday-Friday. One last outing in the old car.

After that they say the cold is coming. At this point I'll take what I can get.

Just got home from PT on my knee. Feels better now.

We need some aviation stories or old movie vids in here to go with the theme.

At my bar there was an old dude that used to come in and tell stories about the war. He was a gunner on a Lancaster bomber flying missions over Berlin. He had lots of good stories. he was also an author, really interesting guy. James Pope was his name.
His bomber crashed and his little bubble where his gun was, broke off on impact and rolled down the field! His crew all died except him.

That reminds me of the Tuskegee Air men movie from a few years ago. Hard to beleive that kind of segregation went on just 70 years ago.

Hey Little Red,

Since you posted this video.. I'm just curious and mean no harm or disrespect when I ask this... truly I don't.

Am just curious how you feel about WW2 with your Japanese ancestry.

I remember you said you moved the the US when you were young, maybe only 5 if I remember right.

So most probably you do not remember any of the history teachings from Japan and only know what you learned in the US.

And by the way there is another guy here that also has Japanese ancestors that served in the US military for years.

I have only been to Japan one time myself and loved it there.

My friends I stayed with there have also been here to my home in the Philippines for a visit.

No disrespect or offense taken.

I am an American, first and foremost -- an Air Force brat. Dad was from Pittsburgh, mom was from Sendai. They met on his first overseas tour. They honeymooned in Hachioji. I was born in Australia. Lived in Japan from '68-'72. I was five (good memory ). Kindergarten through fourth grade. I have very fond memories living in Japan as a kid. Aunts, uncles, cousins. My grandfather had two wives which was different, but accepted in society. Everyone was so nice. Great toys and cartoons. Bullet train, the Ginza, awesome food, Tokyo, driving on the wrong side of the road, Japanese candy. Celebrating Japanese holidays, Noh theater, Kabuki, kimonos, and geta (wooden flip flops). I could speak Japanese fluently without an American accent, but pretty much lost that over the years.

As far as your question about WWII history, I am American. We won. I went to DoD schools on base. We had Japanese culture as a class, but we learned American history. I remember my mom telling me the first time she came to the U.S. and was driving across country thinking incredulously "we went to war against this country?!? No wonder we lost." She also talked about everything being rationed, sugar, rice, etc. Skiing to school. She was very good at math (serious ) and a heck of a poet.

I'd love to go back someday, but probably never will. I'll always have the memories though. Thanks for letting me relive them a little.

This was my mom's family crest. It represents three bales of rice on a mat.

You, sir are a quintessential American. People like you and your family make this country what it is. Immigrants who want to be Americans first, and contribute to our country.
