Anyone else call them Gin Mills ?

Was walking on the boardwalk and this thought came into mind....I remember my Grandfather,Uncle and my Dad going to the local "Gin Mill" in West New York....I would go with them and I would get the Red Pistachios for 1 penny and come home with red fingers and lips

I just remember spending much of my summers at my granparents' place in Far Rockaway, Long island (properly pronounced "Lawn Gieland") and having Taki cups on the boardwalk

It's a Prohibition Era term. Gin can be made with cheap grain alcohol and flavoring- no aging required. So it was a popular drink back in the day at "gin mills".

I was passing a bar on the boardwalk and this memory just came back to me ....good to have good memories for sure.

That's not gin as we know it. If you want to be a true asshole about it, I can go back to the first century:

At that time, a physician named Pedanius Dioscorides published a five-volume encyclopedia about herbal medicine. “Within his papers is a detailed description of the use of juniper berries steeped in wine to combat chest ailments,” Ford says. “In 1055, the Benedictine Monks of Solerno, Italy included a recipe for tonic wine infused with juniper berries in their ‘Compendium Solernita.’”
