Default former Bethlehem Steel building in Bethlehem PA imploded

Today the former Bethlehem Steel Headquarters was imploded. Martin Tower is now a pile of rubble. It was the highest building in Bethlehem at 332 feet tall.

Simpleman ( Scott ) lives a few miles from the location and probably heard the explosion this morning just after 7 AM

I watched the live feed as it came down

Second video has slow mo
Both video have crap for the last 15 seconds so once the building implosion ends, so does the important part

Building was only 50 y/o.....seems to me being an office building, the structure was stable enough, so why not remodel the thing into housing/etc??

Was goofing with the kids in bed and the concussion felt like it was in my chest.
When I looked, our clock read 7:02am.

Thought it was thunder at first but remembered they were bringing her down this am.

Neighbors kid across the street is training with volunteer fire dept and was on site. Said it freaked his Dad out since they were also there at 9/11. (clean up crew, his Dad is a construction foreman in NYC)

One of our rental properties is 1/4 mile away and it'll be weird not seeing it in the skyline of little Bethlehem.

Jeez man, that's a big building. They could have housed a lot of homeless people from Los Angeles in that building.

What a waste.

The current owners, after failing to get tenants for the building, deemed it less expensive to start over than to rehab it.

Wow! Pretty straight knock down.

Beth Steel, back in the day, one of the biggest employers in America.
Outside of Baltimore, there was the Beth Steel Sparrows Point shipyard and steel mill, the biggest tidewater steel mill in the world.

Tore it all down a few years ago, nothing there of mill. Building large commercial complexes now.

Word from other developers was there was asbestos in some of the building and I know it was also loaded with the Chinese drywall that was in the news years ago for loading up with black mold.

Butz and a few other local big wigs were looking into making condos out of it but none of the lenders wanted to touch it.

I hadn't heard about the Chinese drywall but that was right in the timeline for asbestos.

Got to hand to the chinese, not only did they get rid of hazardous materials, but we paid to get it

Damn skippy...and the average person just thinks Trump is out to "poke the bear" with China.

Makes me wonder if most folks have any comprehension of history or has read beyond what the shills pass to their flock.

I remember Sparrows Point from a college tour of the GM assy plant there, back in the early/mid 60's.....and seeing the steel plant too.....

So I guess it's all gawn now.....I know GM closed their plant, it was an eye opener, complete RR trains coming inside the building so parts could be unloaded.....

I seem to remember that building when visiting the Peeps store. Was a nice small town feel there in Bethlehem
