Mom's Dad died of heart attack in his mid 80s.

Dad's Dad took his own life with a shotgun when he was in his late 60s.
Incredible man but was battling some fierce demons.

Maternal: pancreatic cancer around 70 y/o.
Paternal: lived to 98, I don't recall any serious/chronic health issues. Can't remember his cause of death.
My Dad died at 58.

So I might have a couple years left, or you all might be blessed with my presence for 3 or 4 more decades.

I've had 11 surgeries since 2010. 10 since 2017. 1st one cut me open from my navel to my nuts. The rest were someone deemed preventive to a point. Quality of life seems to be good at the moment and nothing in the hopper, well except for arthritis I guess.

Fair amount of cancer ran in my family. I think most of it was lack of making regular medical visits plus most were heavy smokers

Lots of drinkers and smokers in the family tree, and lots of men that died in their 50's and 60's. I am looking to start a new trend.

I've known many over maybe the past 15 years or so that have great medical either from employment, retirement, VA and such, yet fail to use it. Sad.

Sorry for your loss.

My parents were older when I was born so I only really knew my 2 grandmothers and was only close to the one who died when I was about 15. I hope you had a chance to enjoy time with her.

Died in his sleep. My Mother took up his morning cup of tea, and he'd gone somewhere where he didn't need it.

Died at 86. Ate a tradtional western diet (home cooked of course, no fast food), never had a day's illness, no joint problems, & smoked a pipe. I often came home from school to find him sitting in his favourite armchair, about 1 ft from the TV, with our boxer dog SITTING ON HIS SHOULDER, front feet on the chair arm.

"If it isn't a boxer it's only a dog"

Never met either grandfather.

My maternal one died way back of the Spanish flu, left a wife and 4 young kids.

My paternal one they said cardiac issues. From what I was told the area in Italy he came from had a tradition, the next family person born would inherent his given name. My oldest aunt now sort of the matriarch of the family told my mother, not to pay attention to that nonsense. He is your child name him/her what you want.

Thanks Aunt Marry I would have hated to go thought life as Inochenso <SPL>. (The innocent one) Even from what I heard when I was older my grandfather hated it so much he signed all papers with I only for a first name

I never liked the "Jr" concept however our paternal middle name has been passed on down for generations and I kept it going with my son

Wow, interesting. My GF had work horses but died from something else, not really sure but he was only 60, which was 3 years before I was born.

Here's my maternal GF (1886-1947). My mom (1915-2002) was raised on what today we would call a "subsistence farm." No running water, no tractors just horses, only wood heat, very little actual money, they grew or raised nearly all of their food.

My mom learned how to drive horses, out of necessity, as soon as she was big enough to handle them.

They lived in the SW corner of NYS, very rural, all farms, nearly everyone there lived like that. Our family roots go back there to 1802, when they moved there from New England.

I never met either of my Grandfathers. They died before I was born. When I asked my Father how they died he said "They wanted to" since their wives were total bitches. I only was allowed to meet on Grandma and she was not a person I wanted to be around. The other we were never allowed to meet.

Pop's dad was killed by 3rd wife, I think she hit him over the head with a freshly-finished bottle of scotch.
Mom's dad was lost at sea, best guess he got drunk and fell overboard.

Never met any of my grandparents, spoke to my dad's mum, they were from Edinburgh, on the phone you could not understand a single word she said, that real Scotish accent is brutal.

You got that right. I watch some shows on cable about serious problems (Disasters and engineer **** ups) and many times when they interview a Scott they have sub titles. The Welsh are not that much better!

She probably passed when I was 12, one Christmas Day a few years earlier my dad called her, as he always did on Christmas.
My dad would speak to her, and then me and my two bros got our turn.
When the call was over, the three of us would look at each other, and confirm that none of us understood a word she said.

The Scots should stick to making scotch, and not waste time on incoherent phone calls.
