Default Summer Karting

Last year around June or July a bunch of crazy gearheads got together at VIR and did a couple of hours of Karting. I know I have seen a few threads about a few of us wanting to do it again so i figured I would get the ball rolling and start seeing who is interested.

Now I do not have all the Logistics locked in just yet but i should have them in the next week or so. Now I am contacting both places to get the pricing. We have two possible locations to do this and it is all going to be up to you the participant to decide which track you want to tame.

I know a few of us have talked about doing the course at Summit Point:
Summit Point Kart

Or

We can go back to VIR: Kart Track

As soon as I know pricing I will update this post, but in the mean time let me know if you are interested in doing this. This does not have to be an all Vette turn out.

Randy

What is the top speed on these? I've got a lot of laps at Summit on two wheels.

You know im going to say about 30-35 mph and of course weight has a big factor as well. The smaller you are the faster you go. Me being a big guy I just go for the fun!

I'm going to pass. If was 60-70 on the tighter course at Summit, I'd do it.

Randy,

I was the one that set the event up last year. Count me as a definte maybe depending on the date.

I have karted at both VIR and Summit Point, both are nice facilities. It was pouring rain when we did a NASA Enduro at Summit Point, slicks in the rain make for an interesting race.

This is going to be one of those times when guys north of Richmond are going to lean towards Summit Point and guys in the south are going to prefer VIR.

In for some karting.

I'd prefer VIR.

Wayne,

I remember you setting this up last year and was going to look you up when i got back from Texas. I remember it being pretty affordable last year but have just recieved a quote for what it would cost for the hour. Would like to get up with you and figure out who you talked to at VIR? Its looking like I am going to Summit on the 30th of April and i will be meeting Lee and do some karting while a vintage race is going on. I will shoot you a pm when i get back.

Randy,

One possible option would be to have teams run in one of the NASA kart enduros like Lee and I competed in a couple times last year. Here is the schedule for the rest of the year. I am planning on doing at least couple of these and was going to contact Lee to race with me (hopefully 07/24 and 11/06). Perhaps we could field two or three teams instead of doing a track rental.

Sat Jun 19 SPK Washington Circuit Twilight Kart Enduro #4 (120min)
OPEN / 9 of 15 teams left

Fri Jul 23 VIR Kart Track Twilight Kart Enduro #5 (120min) TBA

Sat Jul 24 VIR Kart Track Twilight Kart Enduro #6 (120min) TBA

Sat Aug 21 SPK Washington Circuit Twilight Kart Enduro #7 (120min) TBA

Sat Oct 9 VIR Kart Track Twilight Kart Enduro #8 (60min) TBA

Sat Nov 6 SPK Washington Circuit Twilight Kart Enduro #9 (120min) TBA

Considered me contacted I am in!

As Randy said we'll be up at Sumit Point on the 30th of APR and will let everyone know what Sumit's karts and track are.

Ok,

Randy and I did check out the karts at Sumit Point, didn't drive because of Leagues using the track. Summit is more set up to league racing (track didn’t open until 5pm for general public).

Track looks fast but to flat for my liking. I think VIR would still be the place for us to hold our karting events more of a true road course with better racing events at the VIR tracks. Now for us that want to run endros the Summit track would be ok.

Your thoughts Randy?

Lee I agree with you 100% I am going to give VIR a call when I get back from Hawaii and see what we can get set up. I have received an email back from them and I have been quoted $1100 dollars for an hour for the track and I know that is not what we paid last year. We might just need to come up with a date and just drive to VIR and do it that way.
