The terrorist who murdered 49 people Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando made two trips to Saudi Arabia.

A U.S. intelligence official confirmed to Fox News this morning that Omar Mateen, 29, made the trips in 2011 and 2012.

Chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge said this is a "significant" piece of the puzzle.

Herridge said authorities are trying to learn whether there were direct ties from Mateen to a foreign terror organization.

Mateen is said to have traveled to Saudi Arabia for the umrah, a non-mandatory visit to Mecca.

She added that agents are following dozens of leads and are not ruling out the possibility of additional suspects.

Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS in a 911 call before the attack and ISIS has claimed responsibility for the terror attack.

You are going to put 3-4 armed officers at every metal detector entry point? Not likely.

Even so, I absolutely guarantee that in an environment like that, I (and just about anybody else with even a small amount of training) could take out that many people before they even knew what the hell was happening. I'll go out on a limb in saying that the 4 people checking bags at a bar aren't the best of the best and certainly aren't paying attention at the level that they would need to be doing to have a chance of stopping it.

I would be able to protect myself IF I WAS ALLOWED TO DO SO. What you are proposing is taking away any chance I may have had of actually doing that. Putting up a bunch of metal detectors does nothing for my protection.
