I know what you mean.

I always love looking at your stuff. I feel like we have very different styles but I can appreciate your photos. I am a photo class drop out myself. I honestly think I got my "eye" from my mom. She would have been a photography major in college but my grandfather would not let her. I love looking at her old stuff...she was really good. I wish I had some of her photos on my computer to share.

Ooops...now I am rambling...back to my cocktail.....

You take some awesome wildlife photos.....I get jealous when you post up nice warm beach pics with birds when it's like 20 degrees here. You have much better weather for it. ( oh yeah, and your pics from Europe too!)

Can't check from work. It's over 10 years old. It does a better job of copying color but haven't used mine in a long time either.

Thank you.

Your macro photos have inspired me. I have been trying but I am no good yet. I was trying to take macro pictures of a bee the other day and it was REALLY hard. I got one *almost* cool shot...but that was it.

It comes down to most people being worried about the price and not the quality of the pictures. The three pictures you posted are pure shit, but I bet the price was right.

For example, my buddies grandmother wanted to take some family pictures for his grandfathers birthday. His grandparents are multi-millionaires. When it came time to pick the photographer, they decided to choose one over the other because the first, a friend of my buddy, wanted too much money.

They never looked at the portfolio of either photographer to see the quality of work. My buddy said, "We're just going to the park to take a few different group shots. These photographers are crazy to think they can charge that much."

Personally, I wouldn't want to pay a lot for quality pictures in which I'll rarely view. My girlfriend on the other hand...

Explain to me "macro shots". How do you get them?

The salt, snowflake and JMS32935's bee looked pretty cool!

This looks like a good place to ask this question. I have some killer 35mm slides of my wife. Who or where do I go to have those printed or converted to digital?

Another old school photographer here... graduated from Ohio Institute of Photography in 1987. Processed and printed my own stuff for many, many years. Got out of photography about 10 years ago - although I still tinker in it once in a while.

It's funny to talk to "so called" photographers and they have absolutely no clue about the rule of thirds, zone system, f-stops, etc. There's a lot of crap photographers out there that people think is just fantastic. If they only knew...

The 'family' pic I posted - girl charges $75.

Here's a (cell phone) pic of my setup. Ignore the duct tape - it was about to start snowing and I just wanted to get it together as quick as possible.

Here's my setup for shooting TTv:

For about $100 (or less) you can pick up a slide and negative scanner. While it'll take some time, it's cheaper to go this route than to pay someone to do it.

...and speaking of bees:

Same here. I have so much to learn its not even funny, but I do enjoy it. The problem is my friends see a couple of my pictures and they want me to take theirs. I always defer them to a professional that has the right equipment. Though somehow I'm getting roped into doing some this year, but I'm not accepting payment unless they are 100% satisfied and even then I probably won't charge them anything more than a meal.

You can send them to me. I have a Nikon Coolscan 4000 dpi slide scanner. Promise quick turnaround and I promise I won't post the pics for the pervs here.

I've made that same general comment several times.
It seems like every female around my age that gets a dslr seems to think they are pro and start their own business.
Then spam the shit out of facebook with it.

A girl I work with was shopping for a dslr last year and I made that observation. She laughed, but she's kind of headed that direction.
