Default $20 Booze

We're having our office Christmas Gift Exchange and the most popular item is alcohol. I don't want to just do the usual, what's a good - different - bottle of something for $15-20?

It might not be good, but it is different...

How about a bottle of Two Buck Chuck (now around $3) wrapped in 17 singles?

A waste of $3. I wouldn't even cook with it.

I'd suggest a 2012 Red Zin, Syrah, or Pinot Nior from the Napa or Sonoma region. You really can't go wrong there.

I love this wine even though I am not a fan of whites. It is around $20, probably about $22 but a really great wine and will throw you as the temperature warms the different grapes pop out in flavor

If you want a red zin - go with 7 Deadly Zins ($17)

I hate to even mention this, but you better make sure bringing alcohol is OK with your company. We used to hand out liquor to all our customers at Christmas, but most companies now days have zero tolerance for alcohol on premises, even though it would be unopened and obviously meant as a present.

Common sense is removed from lots of workplaces these days.

Good stuff.

Just remember a wise man always told me life is to short for cheap booze and ugly women.

We have some of that in our collection, it's a good wine for the price for sure.

Last night I had some DeLoach red zin (2012, from the Russian River Valley area of Sonoma county) that we just got shipped here and wow it was really good. Had a bit of what I call "horse blanket" to it which I love but some people (novices mostly) think it makes the wine undrinkable. We love it. It's kinda rare to have that profile in a new wine like this, usually I find it in complex older wines that have lost some of their fruit (like a well-aged Cab or Petite Syrah) and wines like that really benefit from decanting. Next time you open up a bottle that you suspect needs some decanting, do it that morning and stick a paper towel in the top of the decanter, then put it in a dark place for the day. That night it will be at its best.

Thank you for the head's up... it was my boss who said these things are all about alcohol. We're a very conservative company so it kind of surprised me.

Another vote for this. Like Dixie, I am not a big fan of most whites but this stuff is pretty nice

Our local liquor store had the 1.75l JB Honey for $ 20 even (sale price) last year. I gave out lots of bottles as gifts, and even kept one for myself. Good stuff. Still have most of the bottle left, though. I need to start drinking more, before I get banned here.

Who said conservatives don't like to drink?

I'm so far to the right, I think Ron Paul's a Communist. And I love my alky-haul.

While common sense is disappearing at my place of work, thankfully, they haven't messed with our kegerator in the game room yet. You can always find some booze to drink around here. Wine, beer or liquor. The only requirement is don't be an idiot.
