In what ways are they more efficient? Their batteries are pretty standard. I don't believe that their motors are substantially different or unique. They follow the same rules of physics for rolling an object through the air.

They do a decent job at recapturing kinetic energy through regenerative braking. I'm sure their motors are pretty efficient, and they have a good computer and are quite aerodynamic. Other than that, not much can be done to increase efficiency.

Elon Musk is extremely efficient at getting and using government money and calling it his own...ie. Tesla and Space X.

Add in a machine that runs on rainbows and unicorn farts, and you've just got the most totally awesome machine ever, it's so hot, it ignites itself.

I'm not ok with the government giving handouts to poor people and subsidizing their failures. I'm sure as shit not ok with the government straight up funding expensive toys.

It's a cool car sure, but until it stands on its own, it's a failure.

And as long as minor fender benders are igniting the cars, they're also unsafe.
That's a fart in the wind compared to the tens of BILLIONS of dollars we are giving to the oil companies in subsidies every year.

I know it's hard, but try to stay on subject. You can start another seagull thread if you have something to quote and leave.

"Proposed elimination of a tax deduction"
"credible estimates between 14 and 52 billion"

Seems to me that's money the companies earned that the government isn't stealing in taxation. That's considerably different than "giving the oil companies money", which is what you clearly stated.

If these companies truly are being given unearned money as you like to claim, it should be fairly simple to cite that actual dollar amount, not some estimate within a 40 billion dollar window.

Or, I suppose if your income tax rate is 35%, you must feel the government is being generous in subsidizing you the other 65% that you earned but they aren't taking, right?

Right. That gets to my point. Their batteries are nothing special. Their motors are nothing special. They regenerate from braking in much the same way as anyone else. They do have an over-engineered "lightweight" aluminum body (that could be optimized for mass, and thus better economy). Their aero drag looks competitive. They're not using tire technology that's unavailable to others. Overall, it seems to be a pretty well designed, reasonably well engineered vehicle, but I don't see them pushing the technology envelope that will make electric cars viable beyond a niche market that's unconcerned with practicality. That's especially true when you consider that sell them for $70-100k and lose quite a bit of money in the process. Eliminate the silly "credits" that they sell and the company won't last long.

Joecooool doesn't care about real world practicality or the reasonableness behind government subsidies for such pie in the sky ventures.

Typical liberal.
