Default $2400 for a table?

got an email today from a woodworking place back in the DC area, i'm still on their mailing list. they are going to have a 2 day 'build it yourself' thing next january, and are offering 3 options. 2 sizes of a dining table, or an office desk with 3 drawers.

Quote:
Pricing will vary depending on wood and customization. Based on the three AutoCAD drawings, pricing will be as follows:
44x78 Dining Table
Oak or Birch: $2400
Maple or Cherry: $2510
Mahogany or Walnut: $2842
42x60 Dining Table
Oak or Birch: $2134
Maple or Cherry: $2231
Mahogany or Walnut: $2521
32x66 Table Desk:
Oak or Birch: $2680
Maple or Cherry: $2805
Mahogany or Walnut: $3181
first one, the oak dining table has about 30 board feet of lumber, most of it in the top of course. last i priced oak, it was about $6/BF, and walnut was about $9/BF

so to my eye, it looks like they are taking the cost of the wood x 10. yikes.

anyone want a table? i'll help you build it, you buy the lumber and figure how to get it home.

I kept the table leaf for use around the house....

the shit that is tossed out, fine decent furniture here in Florida....would sell for bux up north.....

like my Nautical Antique collection, near worthless for the transportation costs alone.....

you don't you numbskull. you make it. out of several narrower pieces. being sure to join with biscuits and alternate the grain so as to minimize warpage.

you really need to get out more. put Annie on, go take a walk.

I wouldn't want a dining table made out of boards. In fact, I've never seen one made like that. Is this a "primitive" table?

Annie passed out over an hour ago. She's sleeping on my bed with all four paws pointing to Heaven. If I didn't have to watch over her (and her consumption) I could get out more...

There is a HUGE difference between what I MAY be able to do in wood shop, compared to Doug......

I can wack PLYwood just fine to make like kitchen cabinets, but don't have the tools or patience to make GOOD doors.....

let alone nice work like he does on various projects......

I respect good craftsmanship, and the TOOLS it takes to GET THERE, and obviously the experience to RUN them properly......

If those dimensions are in feet, it's not a bad deal....Shipping is a bit pricey though.

I prefer glass tabletops myself. I like to put Rain-X on them..makes for laughs when people try to slide like..salt shakers, or...well, anything, shits like slick as hell.

You would think Oak would be more because of the wear and tear on the tools

Build it yourself, huh? That reminds me.....I'm getting a house and fence painting quote from "Tom Sawyer Painting Co." They provide the paint and materials, and I get to unleash my inner painter and do the work myself. Price seems a little high, but it will be pretty fun I am told.
