Default Calling on people that know shit about computers
So I have a MacBook Pro with an M1 processor. I want to run a couple things that only use windows like HPTuners and a Durametric, both of which are for car diagnostics and tuning. I don't know shit about computers and am not following along with these YouTube videos from computer people. I just want to use an external hard drive to run something like windows7 to use HPTuners and Durametric. I don't have much space on the actual hard drive of the laptop to dedicate to such a simple need. I'm completely tech-illiterate. What's the process for dummies? Here's the best I can understand so far:

Buy an external hard drive like a LaCie portable hard drive
Subscribe to Parallels
Install Windows 11 on the external hard drive

Does this make sense? I'd prefer a better option to make a one time purchase versus an annual subscription of Parallels which is why I avoid dogshit windows products in the first place.

I don't do Macs either and yes buy a Windows laptop; if you aren't a computer guy then some cobbled together solution is going to be nothing but trouble for you...

HOWEVER; if you're hell bent on trying it anyways look into something called "Boot Camp"

You can run Windows OS on a Mac using "Boot Camp" unfortunately for the OP it has to be an Intel CPU not a M1 chip

Bootcamp worked well for me when I was using Win 7 on an Intel based Macbook. As far as I understand, Bootcamp doesn't apply to non-Intel, e.g. M1, Macs.

Parallels might be a good choice, or a cheap Win laptop.
