Secret Pricing
Lately on another forum which most of you are familiar with I have been seeing vendors offering unheard of deals on select merchandise. The kicker however is that these deals are so incredibly awesome that they can't even post the price so you have to PM them to find out what it is. Am I the only one who thinks this is nonsense? They claim if the manufacturer finds out what they are selling it for that they will get in trouble. Why would the manufacturer care what you sold it for after you purchased it from them?

Now there's a good answer.
It's just a marketing ploy Munch. The wholesalers won't let them advertise the price so that other vendors they sell the products to(at a different price) don't come back on them and demand a lower price.

It was early, he's probably not a morning person.
That actually makes sense. Munch is satisfied.

I find out most of the time when I PM them the price is not as good as I thought it would be, I think it is more marketing than low prices

It lets the manufacturers get around "price fixing." They can request retailers not advertise a product below a certain price point. That allows those who want to throw a big sale do so without busting the balls of retailers who may have higher overhead, better service or a different shipping and handling policy.
Once customers see a price of $59.95 for a widget from retailer A, that's what they think it's worth. Even if retailer B is going to treat them better, service after the sale and all that and charge $65.95, they'll beat him up to get it for the lower price. |
