It'll be 2 or 3 weeks minimum to get a majority back online, wouldn't doubt it takes over a month for most to be restored. Two thousand miles of lines are down. Not uncommon for it be 2 weeks or more.

I was out for 15 days after Hurricane Ike. I just talked to family friends from the NO area, out of 4 houses, only one had power, 3 had at least a little fence damage, none had roof damage, meaning the houses were intact.

They'll all probably be up in a couple more days, maybe a week. It's the folks in New Orleans proper that are going to really suffer, because they lost high voltage transmission towers that spanned the river. That is probably a lot more complicated than just replacing a bunch of creosote wood pole transmission lines.

If TX could do it in a few days, what makes you think LA will take a month?

As for gasoline, how do you pump it without electricity Mr. Smarty Pants?

How much money did we spend after Katrina to rebuild their infrastructure so that this would NOT happen?

The levees, floodwalls and floodgates that protect New Orleans held up against Hurricane Ida's fury, passing their toughest test since the federal government spent billions of dollars to upgrade a system that catastrophically failed when Hurricane Katrina struck 16 years ago.

Longest I've seen around here is 10 days but that was because our repair workers were all sent out of state to help fix hurricane damage elsewhere. Seems they didn't think the storm would get this far. Sounds like some places could end up experiencing the same situation because of Ida.

Corps of Engineers built/ rebuilt levees. My understanding is that the old levees were built by land developers and regulated by local officials. Some were just piles of dirt. Typical corruption.

Probably would have been better off abandoning all that land that is below sea level.
