Long term impact of Covid (mine)

When I was a few days in to my bout with Covid, I lost my sense of taste and smell. Sweet cereal with milk tasted like salt. Vick's Vapo-Rub had ZERO smell. I could not smell cologne, food, fire, air fresheners...nothing.

That was in November and something is still mis-wired. My sense of taste is back, but my sense of smell is off. There is a mildly bad smell that seems to have replaced whatever my nose or brain has difficulty recalling.

This is where it gets strange...

These 4 things smell exactly the same to me AND I will smell these things at times when none of them are around. Randomly I can walk into a room or by someone's office and that particular substitute smell is there. There are more than these 4, but these are the high runners.

A Wendy's grilled chicken salad
My dog's food (dry and canned)
Coffee from my Kuerig (but not coffee my coworker drinks that has pecan flavor)
My urine :ack

NONE of these smell like what they actually are and they all smell exactly the same. It is not a good smell.

In some cases I have started thinking that my brain is trying to rebuild the ability to smell certain things and when it can't come up with the right mix, it just tosses this odd smell in to the situation. Like, hey, that is dog food, and I can't really smell dog food like I used to so let's just send these signals down the path and see if it works.

I am becoming paranoid that I, or my clothes, or something around me stinks, but I ask people who would ENJOY telling me that it's me , and it all smells normal to them.(No, they are not smelling my urine)

It is unnerving. I hate it. It has me spraying stuff and burning candles like a crazy person. Here is the best I can describe it. It smells kind of like blood or like blood tastes if you've ever had a bloody nose. Sort of earthy, metallic, and spoiled all at once.

I'm actually considering finding a medical study to see if I can join.

Every time I have a discussion with someone about COVID I usually tell them my greatest fear is losing my sense of taste and smell.

On the bright side, maybe you can’t smell your farts.

Had COVID in December, the loss of smell and taste was the suckiest part of it for me, and I know Im lucky. My wife still claims her sniffer only works about 50% as well as prior to COVID. I think Im about back to normal. I have noticed some things smell different like coffee. Also I get the random smoke smell sometimes. not always cigarette smoke btu sometimes like firewood and sometimes like burning grass (lawn grass not the devils lettuce grass).

Have you been to the Dr.? My brother had it back in Oct. and still was having symptoms that would not go away deep into this year. Finally went to the Dr. and they classified him as a long hauler. Gave him two rounds of one of the c19 meds and he started doing better.

It's out of control here again. Hosp. stats at 110 percent capacity. Even listening to my scanner, I constantly here med calls for shortness of breath.

So, the hospitals are at 110 of capacity or the ICU's are? ICU's are designed to normally run at 95%+ capacity to pay for themselves. That panic was pushed last summer too, and it was all BS. Most hospitals can double or triple their ICU beds for real emergency's.


Jeeze, heart attacks, asthma, heat stroke, the flu (right, no one gets that anymore) just a few possible reasons emergency services gets called for 'shortness of breath'.

Just doing a copy/paste. I had it back in Oct. kicked my ass for a solid 2 wks., and still took longer to get my full respiratory system back to normal. I haven't vacced, yet. I don't want it again though.

Gordon County cases increased by 50 on Wednesday to 7,059 total since the pandemic began.
Gordon County deaths increased by 2 on Wednesday to 110 total since the pandemic began.
Georgia cases increased by 4,934 on Wednesday to 1,005,806 total cases since the pandemic began.
Georgia deaths increased by 43 on Wednesday to 19,087 total since the pandemic began.

You do realize that the covid tests can not distinguish between the flu & covid right? The numbers you posted mean nothing. That 109% number is that total hospital capacity or the number of simultaneous cases they can handle. Also, is the hospital trying to keep 95yo alive or are these all younger patients? How many of these people were already sick from something else. Your numbers maybe 100% correct, but without context we can't make a rational decision.

I've had no sense of smell sense I was in my teens and it took me years to get used to it. Hell, I am so paranoid that along with my shower in the morning and before bed, I keep deodorant at the house, in my truck, and in my office.

One down side is I can't tell if I'm about to finish the night with a bad date after suggesting we move the kinky stuff into the shower.

The plus side is, I can't tell if anyone farts unless I hear it and I'm always the one laughing my head off when other passengers catch a whiff of me and wonder why I was trying not to laugh for a bit.
