Terrible freakin' neighbors.
Sounds like it was about time to shoot the neighbors!

This might help to understand why I was so floored: My last home was in a small, gated neighborhood of around 30 houses all on an acre each. It was a brand new development and everyone was a first owner, so we all pretty much knew or knew of one another. My ex and I were never terribly involved in the neighborhood (I had just finished being an HOA president in my old neighborhood and I wasn't doing it again). Our immediate neighbors seemed just fine. Then comes the divorce. I move out for almost 2 years.

During this time, two things happened: 1) My ex suddenly becomes fast friends with the people who lived next door to the west. 2) One of the hausfraus in the neighborhood decided to start up Mary Kay. Of course, the ex being as gullible as she was, immediately drank the Kool-Aid. Once a week, all the hens in the neighborhood would have the Mary Kay meeting which of course was nothing more than a gossip fest. My ex decided to poison the well and by the time I moved back in, I was the neighborhood pariah.

I'd be out mowing the lawn and people would drive by giving me dirty looks. The next door neighbors (whom previously I never had a cross word with) started looking in my garage and reporting back to my ex if I bought a car, had people over, or had anything delivered. It was like living next door to Gladys Kravitz. So now you can see why I was so glad to leave.

I make a point to go and introduce myself to every new neighbor that moves into our neighborhood. We may not always take baked goods or gifts, but I feel that the simple act of going and introducing yourself and offering any help if needed goes a long way. We're fortunate to have wonderful neighbors around us that we're really good friends with. They've helped us (and vice versa) on countless occasions.

We've watched other neighbor's kids on short notice, watched houses, helped move large objects, build decks, and (to an extreme) a neighbor and I drove his pickup truck 1400 miles round trip to get my Corvette and bring it back.

death threats ?

You do know that Dennis Rader (the infamous BTK killer) would write up people in his neighborhood for having the wrong color garden hose... serious.

it wasn't a HOA; instead he was supervisor in the Compliance Department in Park City, Kansas

Shit no...we had a great HOA. I enjoyed it. 5 years and never had a major issue with anyone.

On move-in day, our neighborhood's version of Gladys Kravitz came over to introduce herself. I was way in the back of the house, putting away some storage items.

When I straightened up from the shelf, I was startled by this stranger standing in our new home. She was holding her little rat puppy and both were just staring at me. She didn't say a thing, just looked at me. Disconcerting as all hell.

Now that we've been living here for a while, we've gotten to know her. Having her in the neighborhood is better than owning an attack dog. I pity the fool that drives up in a strange car and wanders around my house...

*Gosh*

I was floored. Put a smile on my face all day. Nice to know there are still some good people out there. I plan to go over this weekend and thank them. I just thought that was really a sweet thing to do.
Was it a free pot plant for the weekend block parties?

Most of our neighbors are great people. The one exception is the jerk living across the street. My stepson did the dumbest thing in the world, he married their daughter without living with her or anything. He came back from Iraq and off they went getting married. Three months later the divorce hits, he found out she was 45K in debt, on top of the 40K he bailed her out of. He also found out she likes to party like and drink like a fish. Of course mom and step dad did not believer their darling little daughter could do any wrong. He came over and threatened my wife saying our son had better take care of his daughter and other crap. Long story short, the jerk tried to intimidate and stalk my wife. He would show up with a school van while she walked the dogs, wait in the dentist office parking lot looking for her, drive by real close to the side of the road while she was walking 5 dogs and just try to make life miserable for her.
I ended up calling the school district maintenance manager to log a complaint about his wandering with the school vehicle. Also I voiced my displeasure with all of the equipment he was seen unloading from the van, school equipment. He had a GPS tracker put on his van and was almost fired. He had the head of the school district visit his house and watch him load all the equipment back into the van and return it to the school.
We next turned it over to the sheriff's office and a detective watched our home security cameras. They called him into the office to answer some questions and almost had a nervous break down when confronted.
Needless to say we don't talk or socialize with the jerks. The other six neighbors all know about it and he does not even talk with anyone. We expect to see a 4 sale sign soon.

So I'm guessing that you're not inviting the ex over to this place?
