He probably dove in right after them to add to his extensive collection.

I would have taken him boating with me but.... Gopher Tortoise. Illegal to touch them, let alone move them or pick them up since they are on the endangered species list.

There have been dumb ass tourists here that pick them up off the sand dunes and take them down to the ocean. Locals have to tell them they aren’t sea turtles

I've seen that, too. Dumbasses. Even Porter wouldn't do that.

Keltech RDB. Got it new at a great price. Never fails and shoots straight. Only time off target within an inch or so is because of operator error

I shoot 5.56 most times, but also .223 reloads I do with a friend which are more accurate.

Have dodged a few turtles in the middle of the road while riding motorcycles. Some were already dead but most still alive. Always felt bad about not stopping to move them off the road. After hearing that my conscience can rest easy

I would have touched it so much that I could have been brought up on sexual harassment charges.

Was in a FB group and some woman from Buffalo was posting pictures and patting herself on the back for "taking the turtle back to a pond!" She even described it not wanting to go swimming, until she pushed it out into the water. I explained she had killed it, and also broken the law and she got very upset. A couple of hours later the post was gone and she was out of the group.

If one is on a street the LE tends to look the other way about touching them. Just remember to move it whatever direction it was headed. If you take it back to it's starting side it will try all over again.

We've had as many as three in our backyard for at least 30 years. Even the dogs ignore them now. Nothing brightens a morning quicker than seeing our little buddies out and about in the morning.

We get fairly large snapping turtle here, couple times people have regretted trying to move them from the road.
Bet that smarts.

I've been told that the big snapping turtles that are common in South Jersey where we go to the beach, can take off a human finger if they get it the right way. Needless to say, I don't touch any turtles down there.

At least so far, I am still able to outrun them like a boss!

Growing up we had snapping turtles in the ditches next to my house. I often took young turtles out of the ditch, kept them a while and re-homed them to a lake in the woods. Always poked at the large ones with a broom handle first to see what kind they were. On a number of occasions I had them bite the stick and break it. Most fearful thing is that their necks are so long they can reach almost to their own tails- so fingers holding a shell on the sides are well within their reach.

Wasn't there a show on in the last few years with some toothless redneck genius who kept snapping turtles in a pond or went into them to grab the turtles by hand to rehome them?

I was watching that thinking, "Wow, this has to be SWAMP PEOPLE on meth!"
