Lets Talk 1911's Shall We
Top one is a Nighthawk Custom $3500 Middle is a Dan Wesson Specialist $2000 Last one is a Kimber Rapide $ 1500 ALL in .45 calibre The fit and Finish on The Nighthawk is Extraordinary, fit and finish on The Dan Wesson is extremely Good, fit and finish on the Kimber is Very Good. As far as accurracy the Nighthawk edges out the other 2 pistols.I have had zero malfunctions in the Nighthawk and Dan Wesson and many in the Kimber I would never buy another Kimber again. Bang for the buck The Dan Wesson is hard to beat It has had ZERO malfunctions and the fit and finish are a hair below The Nighthawk but dont get me wrong The Nighthawk is an EXTRAORDINARY Firearm. |

I have a springfield 1911 .45. I'm not totally impressed with it as the gun will jam if you don't have a tight enough grip.

Those are very nice. I have two. Together they sold for about $1000.
Trigger job on the Springfield Armory Sub-Compact done by a custom gunsmith (http://www.m-guns.com/) who told me "that thing is more accurate than it has any right to be" to which I responded with "I know" I carry it with Wilson Combat 7 round magazines. I used the returned parts from the trigger job on the Spingfield to customize a Rock Island Armory along with a heavy recoil spring and silicone buffer effectively changing it into a 45 magnum. This thing could stop a dump truck. I don't carry it, just a range toy, but so much fun to shoot! It's gun #45 of 200 from a group buy (as seen on the engraving near the muzzle). RIA was a new kid on the block back then and we had Massad Ayoob test fire one as a recommendation prior to purchase. Can hold a 2" group at 75 feet in fast fire mode using handloads with either of these. Neither have experienced a malfunction. |

I picked up a new Remington R1 in .45acp and it was a jam-o-matic. So i did alot of reading, studied the gun and bought alot of parts to make it the gun i wanted.
I polished the rails, polished the feed lip and ramp, polished the barrel, added a compensator, 18lb recoil spring, heavy hammer spring, short spur skeleton hammer, beavertail grip safety, square firing pin block custom fit, heavy firing pin and firing pin spring. Played with the hammer, sear, and grip safety for about a 2.5lb pull that still fully functions and is drop safe. Eats any 45acp and 45super i feed it...never jams, super accurate...love it Edit.. also did a full length guide rod also |

That's funny but I would say not unless it has a light weight frame. Limp wrist malfunctions are a feature of light frames. Steel being heavier than plastic (or aluminum?) resists recoiling with the slide. In order to get best accuracy the gun should be basically floating on air when fired. Relaxed shooting with the 1911 is how I was taught in boot camp. During that training experience I was so relaxed after one shot that the front sight hit me between the eyes. Dazed the crap out of me |

Springfield has a reputation for top notch customer service. Send it to them. I'd be surprised if they charge you anything.

I own a Springfield with a compensator that I bartered for. Love the design but wish mine didn’t have the compensator. Makes the firearm ridiculously big and brings back painful childhood memories of being teased by the other children’s.
Is that TMI? Sorry… |

My current fave is a 9mm I assembled on an Essex frame, Remsport slide and Kart barrel.
EGW fire control group, Wilson slide stop and grip safety, Wolff springs and Novaks. It shoots much better than I do. |

Springfield Armory 1911-A1 in .45 acp
Had my gunsmith do the sear, trigger ( 4-1/2 lbs as it's a carry weapon), ejection port, hammer and springs. He said not to fuss with the rails as they were tight enough. I added pachmyar grips. |
