So what's the damage $$ going to be? I would almost considering commuting in something like that -- if it looks like a normal car and doesn't advertise the hippy initiative.

What type of charge does it require? The one in the commercial doesn't look like a standard household 120v.

No pricing data yet. The Fusion Hybrid is around $32k fully loaded though, so I would guess south of that number.

120v or 220v.

The 220v charging station will cost you $1499, and it is installed by Best Buy.

That's $500-1000 cheaper than GM & Nissan.

wind turbines do FAR more damage to the environment than the nuke plants do -- even with this japanese melt down.

That being said -- I pay for the cheapest power i can get....none of that fancy renewable energy crap.

I just renewed my power contract, and they offered that renewable plan. I asked if there was a cost difference, it was more, so I declined. I'm sure it is just a scam anyways.

Didn't cost my coworker that for his Volt. His 220v charging station was something like $500.

There is a 20 mile exclusion zone around the Chernobyl site and more than 300,000 people were evacuated.

What type of environmental damage do wind turbines do, specifically?

I always thought wind-tubines were a defense measure against another Avian flu attack.

Plus, you don't have to worry about getting a mouthful of gas while siphoning.

They kill flocks of birds at a time.

They leak gear oil, cause noise pollution, take a ton of raw materials to produce, kill birds by the thousand, the list goes on and on.

Nice, but still not... quite... enough... range.

I'd need a guaranteed 150 (summer) miles to be able to have one for a commuter. I have to go about 110 miles a day, some stop-and-go traffic, on my daily routes.

Please. Leak gear oil? Really? That's a monumental environmental concern compared to a nuke plant or a coal-fired generation station? I've driven across West Texas where turbines grow like sunflowers and believe me there aren't thousands of flocks of birds out there to kill. And in the middle of the Panhandle there's nobody around for the noise pollution to bother.

I think there's somebody with an agenda out there looking to create reasons for wind power to not be a good idea. The biggest drawback to wind is that there aren't any transmission lines from the production areas to the consumption areas.

There are a bunch of windmills in farm fields down around Corpus Christi. I didn't know they were there until I was down that way doing work.

Those windmills ARE near consumers. There are birds to consider in that area, however, I do agree with you about the menace of gear oil pollution....is that really the best argument that can be made against windmills? Really? Also, as far as noise, there were windmills on either side of the highway, and I really didn't notice much noise from them, and they were turning the whole time I was in the area.

I'd say you have to be really close to a turbine to actually have problems with noise.

Don't blame me, blame the TCEQ and certain counties. If you want to permit a turbine site you'll be looking at answering to all the issues I brought up. The gear oil usually involves having some boom on site and grading up a little containment berm. Another company we work with does bird surveys because they do kill birds.

I don't really care either way, but you asked the question. Also, the more bs regulation that gets put in place the more work their is for consulting engineers and scientists.
