I grow mint. We constantly harvest it. You do have to keep it trimmed. It kind of goes dormant in the winter here. I also grow rosemary, thyme, basil, chives, oregano, parsley and this year I planted some cilantro, but it hasn't come up yet.

Oh hell yeah, I am all about urbanity

Too late, I already planted mint.

When I was young, we had faucets out in the yard and my grandmother would plant mint at the base. Mint tea all the time.

I really like a little mint, some basil, maybe some dried oregano, olive oil, redwine vinegar and tomatoes.

did I mention wine?

Yes, you mentioned wine, but I like to hear the word.

Cilantro is very versatile. How do you keep your chives in check?

Same way as the mint - constant harvesting. We chop them up and freeze them. I only have one plant.

This is what I am working on this year.

Beans then tomatoes at the stakes. Those are the neighbors. Corn is rows at the flags on the other side of the stakes. i have 12 rows planted so far and hoping for at least 12 more if it will dry up.

I came by while you were gone and harvested your corn. You owe me 50 gold.

Been too wet here to even think of planting a garden this year. Planted some stuff twice. It got washed away within a day or two. Tried to plant some tomatoe starts. Hail took them out. I am done for this year.

I am going to miss it. But all the yard clippings from mowing and the leaves from last year should really help things out for next year. Still its going to be depressing to look at 1800 sq/ft of empty land this season.

If I have a zucchini plant that looks just like that should I assume they are mini also? And how do you know when they are ready?

Mini-zuchinni are just young zuchinni. Not familiar with a true dwarf variety. They are best when about 6"-8" long, although home-grown ones aren't tough even when they get 10" long. Here's a simple (albeit Southern) recipe: Cut zuchinni into 3" long spears (about 3/4" thick). Put into a pot with a can of stewed tomatoes and sliced onions. Add a little water, salt and pepper, and cook until tender. It won't take long to cook, less than 30 minutes.

They are edible almost as soon as they appear. Just let them grow until they are the size your want. I had some last year that were the size of the fat end of a baseball bat. YMMV.

My first planting this year of corn.

The flags on this side of the tomatoes are rows of corn.

Someone wants to play in the garden.

Nice crop-o-chow
Your way ahead of me on plant size......I planted most all of my seeds 4/7/11, except the sweet peas, sugar snaps and radishes on 3/5.

With the weird weather the crops are slow..........But I have had over 100 radishes and 4 lbs sweet peas and 3 lbs of sugar snaps. Just shelled 2 lbs sweet peas last night!

I also have varieties of tomatoes, peppers, corn, eggplant, cucumbers and good old calabash squash, pumpkins, carrots(for my homemade carrot cake) , zucchini, yellow squash, cantaloupes, sunflowers and blue lake string beans all in a 29' x 40' area. Should be pickin squash/zuccs within a week

I can usually trade some veggies for day old beer from the local AB brewery guys

We missed the boat on the garden, too much happening - next year we'll be doing one, nothing that big, but something little. We have been getting Strawberries (about 30-40 /day for the last couple days) though.

2000 plants, reminds me of this couple last year, bought around 3500 daylillies from my Mom last year , and then hired the worker that works for her to come over and plant them at their place in St. Michaels

Envy you guys with gardens. I sure miss the taste of real tomatoes and cantalopes, etc. The stuff you get at the Super Market is picked green and gas ripened, plus it's been so geneticaly altered to keep down spoilage and bruising in shipment that it tastes like crap.
