Default Advance Auto Hosed Me...

Pickup has had the battery cable come loose from the solenoid twice now. Few weeks ago I went to Advance and got a new solenoid, figuring the copper bolt was stretching, soft , broke, whatever. Finally got around to swapping it tonight.

Get the starter off, here it's the wrong solenoid. Wtf? Advance is still open, jump in the Vette and head there starter in hand. They look, they don't even list a solenoid for it. Uhhh, 03 Chevy pickup, no solenoid? Not even listed to order? Nope. Reman starter for $175. Mine is an AC Delco and not that old, wasn't interested in handing them that with $175 for a generic reman unit. They don't stock the AC Delco. Got credit for the wrong part and left...

Came home and threw it back together.

They also told me it's common for the website to list a part and it either doesn't fit or they don't have it.

I'm to the point i write down the part number I want and go in and say fetch it. When they ask what it fits just say it doesn't fit anything I want that part.

The one thing good for them since they merged with Napa is here in town is where there east coast warehouse and corporate headquarters are.

But to your point, typically the stores don't have the part and i end up driving tho the warehouse....

Might have to do that if it does it again. Or a lock-nut with the sides dimpled. Not sure it'll take the heat down there. The wiring has burns on it so even with the heatshield blocking the manifold it still gets pretty warm.

Get a spark plug heat sock for the wire, the kind they use for headers

Hey, I take back half the stuff I said about you!

The whole thing started when I worked on the exhaust manifold bolts. I had a bar in there to pry the manifold away from the head so I could EZ out, TIG weld, or just vice grips the broken bolts out. It fell down on the starter hot wire and sorta heated that up (like glowing red). Ruined the battery, or so I thought. Might have annealed that bolt and it either keeps stretching or it is in the process of breaking. Looked fine when I had it out today though so I took a chance.

Buddy of mine owns a store where I usually go but he didn't have one in stock either. Gonna suck pretty soon because he just closed the deal to sell the place and is gonna retire, selling out to Napa.

But yes, most times when I need a part I don't have a week to mess around.

If you need another solenoid order one from Rock Auto and be done with it

Yeah, I started doing the same thing since the last time I was there, the mouth-breather behind the counter asked if Corvette was a Ford product.

I once bought some battery terminals from the local NAPA. Then, this happened:
