Question for the southerners
Can someone explain to me the deal with the red hot dogs? I never saw anything like this back in Michigan so I'm assuming it's a southern thing. are they just hot dogs colored red for fun or do they have a special taste too? Also there are some really fat and short red hot dogs too.

Not a Dog Guy but found this info..
Kirshner hotdogs makes a red hotdog. They put red die in and are made for fairs and carnivals. The red is for the looks.. Having red hot dogs in your refrigerator is better than having money in the bank and clean socks in the drawer. You get to decide whether to share them, or keep them secret and just sneak down in the middle of the night to steam one up, load it with your favorite gahhnishes, and savor every crispy-skinned bite. This is the real thing. Contains authentic FD&C Red No. 6 and Red No.4 food dyes and all the fondest memories you have of summer cookouts and diner lunches. Some old good. TWO packages, about 25 hot dogs per package, each package weighing 3 pounds. Your shipment comes to you via 2nd day air delivery. (A $20 surcharge applies for orders shipped to the following states: WA,OR,CA,NV,ID,MT, WY, UT, AZ, CO, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, TX, MN, IA, MO, AR, LA, MS, AL, FL, MI, IN, OH, WV, TN, GA, SC, NC. This shipping surcharge will be processed as a seperate transaction and is IN ADDITION TO THE ITEM PRICE. ) Email us at [email protected] for a quote on availability and shipping charges to Alaska and Hawaii. Sorry, no shipments outside the U.S. or to APO/FPO address. Please include a street address for delivery since this item cannot be delivered to a post office box address. NOTE: Because of the volatility in the oil markets, the cost of jet fuel is increasing dramatically and unpredictably. Air carrier shipping rates are escalating in the same dramtic way. We watch the rates closely and will adjust our shipping surcharge as required by increases in those air carrier rates. To ensure their fresh arrival at your home, Red Hot Dogs are shipped in an insulated carton with frozen ice paks, and are only shipped on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each week. PLEASE PLACE YOUR ORDER BY NOON SATURDAY FOR SHIPMENT THE FOLLOWING WEEK. *********************************** MEF1000$90.00 Have you visited the Maine Exiles Message Board today? Not entirely true. Most of our hot dogs here in Arkansas are red. they are not spicy at all. They are a little thinner than your typical dog but taste the same.

The red ones are just dye....they don't really taste all that different then just a regular generic dog. When it comes to dogs, I usually say go all beef, or go home, and if you can find the ones in the natural casings...some call them "snappy dogs"

We have the pickled ones too. I don't care for them as much and you're right. They're spicy. I had forgot about those because you don't see them that much anymore. In the small, rural towns you see them more.

There was a bar back home called the Bow Tie and it was out in the sticks, they had jars of Pickled eggs, pickled turkey gizzards, pickled pigs feet and some other creepy stuff and they went through those jars pretty quick! They also had a special on deep fried chicken livers. God that place gave me the heebie jeebies.
