i figure that this workshop could later on be used as a workshop (duh), or an artist's studio (lots of artsy types out here), or for a rich working craftsman - a place for his stuff and his truck. heated and lots of space. pretty nice on a cold day. 16x9 garage door on south end, so you can leave your truck loaded.

Hmmm, may have to book my guest house reservation soon.

Understandable...I guess things are just a little different for a young man like myself who still works on his vehicles. If I were in your shoes and building a nice shop like that, mine would be geared towards auto maintenance...even though I would love to be a craftsman...Just don't have the skill.

my truck and Mrs. DAB's car need oil changes. pep boys for her, chevy garage for me. they have the tools and parts, and can do inspections for problems. i'd rather do other stuff with my time.

modern cars are mobile computers, hard to work on for a shade tree weekend mechanic.

We have a 24x26 attached garage, and a 26x36 detached garage/shop. We park our vehicles in the driveway. although, my wife says she'll park her new car in the garage.

And we use the deslership for service. Occasionally the quick lube joint. My new truck is full maintenance for 60K miles.

Down here in hurricane land, you'd have to be 16" on center with lots more anchoring than that including tying the top plate all the way down to the slab

The amount of hardware that is required in frame homes currently has convinced me to build with concrete next go around.

There are other benefits as well. Making the 3-5% worth it.

I'm using ICF exterior walls. Light gauge metal studs on interior walls. And may consider steel trusses.
