The young American film prodigy was promoting the film Pretty Baby directed by Louis Malle. In the magazine, a ten-year old Brooke is shown wearing makeup, her glistening body posed naked in a bathtub. The year was 1978. Her mother signed a contract giving Gary Gross (yep, his real name), the photographer, full rights to exploit the images of her daughter.

In 1981, however, Brooke Shields wanted to prevent further use of these pictures and tried unsuccessfully to buy back the negatives. A legal battle then began between Shields and Gross with Gross being sued.

The actress claimed that the publication of the images caused her distress and embarrassment. Brooke Shields’ acting career, however, weakened the credibility of this argument since it had clearly been built by projecting an explicitly sexual image of herself.

Blue Lagoon (1980):



Whatever the case, the court considered that “these photographs are not sexually suggestive, provocative or pornographic, nor do they imply sexual promiscuity. They are pictures of a prepubescent girl posing innocently in her bath”.

I think, due to the lack of sexual organs being exposed, and the lack of mature breasts..in this case, its Risque'....but technically Art.

Child Exploitation....is more likely.

So much wrong in those photos. Absolutely disgusting behavior on the part of the parents and photographer.

A 13 year old girl can't make an informed decision to consent to that. don't know if it rises to the level of pron but, no doubt sexuailzing her at a young age.

As someone who works with kids, I would love to have 10 minutes alone with that photographer.

This is why I fiercely protect the kids in my program. Some people in Hollyweird think I'm a pain is the ass but right is right.
