Default Vette Barn Gathering in May

Last year, during one of my many fits of rage, I decided to do what I could to make Cruise-In look like a burning Panzer Tank. So I threw an informal gathering at my place during Memorial Day weekend. We had about 35 folks there...many headliners from CFOT...and it was an absolute blast. And, as most of you know, Cruise-In turned out to be an absolute bust.

I didn't think I'd repeat it, but several folks have asked about a May gathering for the Barn, so I've decided "why the hell not!". Obviously, things can't work the same as Cruise-In as we won't have a "Host Hotel" but my three "Planning B!tches" (oyealiz, Me2 and wwomanC6) and I are going to try to work out a suitable compromise. One of the ideas I tossed out was a night at Billy Bob's Texas. Of course Liz was ready with a spa day for the ladies.

If you have interest...and suggestions...post 'em up. I'll make this a sticky after a bit.

Oh and one more thing: I have nothing against St. Judes...or any other charity. What I dislike is being told who I'm required to donate to. The reason that we are all together in the first place is the Corvette. The reason we have all reunited is because of the efforts of Gary (GB Vette) starting this forum. It is my intention to help raise money for the NCM and some to help Gary offset his costs. It's not a requirement, but I think it would be a nice gesture.

Ask questions and post up!

I'm seriously considering flying down for this. Is there a long distance award?

I don't do spa days. So obviously this post is

I also didn't realize the party last year was designed to show up CF's Cruise In. I thought it was a party for me since (1) I was teaching and couldn't take the days off to go all the way to BG and (2) I was moving during the summer and didn't want to spend $$$$ to go to Kentucky.

The one reason I was sad not to be there at CI, though, was missing the unveiling of Bill's bench and not getting to be with Kathy and the girls on that occasion. Since you and I had just visited Kathy in April, though, and had made plans for her to come visit us later in the year, I was (and am) confident that she understood.

As for this years' party...I propose the same venue as last year, with it being just us (the VB folks, I mean) at your place on Friday night and all day Saturday. I like more personal rather than at a bar with loud music and tons of other people.

I also propose that we (the attendees) all pay you for food this year, and that we (the planners) purchase the main food with the funds collected, and let everyone bring snacks, drinks and desserts. You worked way too hard last year and spent way too much money.

Also, I object to being called a b!tch. That is Ms. B to you!!!!

If Cruise In is a failure again this year, how about negotiating with the NCM to see if they would be willing to drop Corvette Forum for The Vette Barn for 2012.

It was my pleasure...but this year I want to spend time with my guests as opposed to slaving over a BBQ smoker all day (I wasn't happy with the way it came out anyways). But yes this year we'll collect some $$$.

Like Liz, I like the idea of being at a house rather than a restaurant but I also get what you are saying. Maybe there is a great BBQ place that we can have cater?

That is the plan for Saturday!

I meant that I don't care for going out on Friday night. I'd rather sit on IC's patio and visit with friends than try to talk over loud music in a bar.

Hmmm.... a 2 1/2 drive to Dallas/Ft. Worth area vs. a 15-17 hour ass-numbing drive to BG. Decisions Decisions!
