Thanks Thomas! It's easily my best effort so far but it still has some warts before I can print it big. The data collected is real solid... the processing is still lacking.

Your silhouette shots against the sunset belong in a magazine. Astro is a weird discipline. Lots of prep and fiddly equipment to set up... then sitting in a camp chair watching the stars an swapping lies with other shooters for hours while a laptop does all the work. Then lots of, and I mean LOTS of post processing. But getting nice Milky Way shots is pretty easy. Wide angle fast lens, a tripod, and really dark skies are about all it takes to get started. Slippery slope, however. Jawdrop! That's what happens to me every time I go out to take these. I lived in a big city for so long I'd forgotten what it was like to be in a truly dark location and just look up. |

He started having a cough that he never had before...took him to the vet who then recommended he be rushed to the emergency vet/hospital. He was put on oxygen, IV, cath, etc.
Unfortunately my suspicion of congestive heart failure is confirmed he is at early stages and on a bunch of meds to control it as long as we can. Sadly, this is common in Boxers (our third Boxer had this as well). He is home resting comfortably, eating again, and ambulating well. Indeed. This has been an emotionally and physically draining weekend for me...have cried many tears and am absolutely exhausted. Sleep deprived, stomach in knots, dehydrated, neck glands swollen, and canker sores...all things that happen to me when I'm stressed (I have a very low immune system that I have to keep an eye on). |

First the important part of the post; LilRedCorvette, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Heartbreaking.
There is ONE tree left with some color on it and I waited for two hours hoping someone would make a pass by it. She did, and for *once* I was ready for a change. I'm a little disappointed in the blown out tail here but overall, it's the shot I went to get. |

Thanks for your words...and sorry to have been a Debbie Downer, it was not my intent to derail the thread. It just has been an emotional time.
I'll make a separate thread about this...in due time... |

From Wiki: The nine brightest stars of the Pleiades are named for the Seven Sisters of Greek mythology: Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno, and Alcyone, along with their parents Atlas and Pleione. As daughters of Atlas, the Hyades were sisters of the Pleiades. The cluster is dominated by hot blue and luminous stars that have formed within the last 100 million years. A faint reflection nebulosity around the brightest stars was thought at first to be left over from the formation of the cluster (hence the alternative name Maia Nebula after the star Maia), but is now likely an unrelated foreground dust cloud in the interstellar medium, through which the stars are currently passing.
Shot this the night of 11/5/18. 49 5 minute exposures at IS01600 using an equatorial mount and 70mm refractor telescope (f4.7). In camera terms this was like shooting with a 520mm lens. This kind of photography requires stacking the individual exposures and processing them with specialized software. The processing can be done in photoshop but it's difficult to get really good results. I didn't add color but did saturate existing colors; you won't see anything this colorful looking through a telescope. The light areas outside of the star cluster are "lanes" of interstellar dust faintly illuminated by the stars of Pleiades. Many images with less exposure time don't show this detail so I was happy to see it in mine. Should mention the Pleiades is very bright and easily visible with the naked eye under darker skies. You can get a nice view with just some binoculars. |

Could you do something about that dust cloud out in front and try it again?
Maybe you could wipe it, like, with a cloth. |

Would it be correct to say that some of the stars in the background have died and the light is still visible from earth?
