Question for anyone with a Supercharged vehicle
This is my second supercharged vehicle, I've had two other turbo's as well. My 09 V ran pretty good and the exhaust was a typical GM style which turns black on the chrome tips from the carbon. The two turbo's did this but like the 09 V the exhaust itself was clean, you never saw any heavy black smoke when being aggressive with the throttle.
This 17 V could kill a swarm of birds on take off. I never noticed it till this summer. Someone commented I was leaving a lot of tire smoke when I took off. The back of the car is covered in soot after a day or two of driving it. The stealership, my favorite one, said everything looks good in the fuel trends. I think I've got an injector or a few leaking down and causing the black exhaust. When I start the car it is clear, smells different than when new but not black exhaust or a heavy rich smell. When you step into it or even gently roll into it the exhaust is heavy black smoke. After about two or three times it clears up for the most part. I've take the car well above the legal speed limit and the exhaust was clear. Anyone with a supercharger have any similar experiences? I'm tired of the crappy GM dealers and don't trust them as far as I can piss. |

I'm going to send this link to a buddy of mine that is a forced induction expert. May take several hours before he replies to me, but I think he will have some good information.

Black is fuel blue is oil. A little black is normal hitting it hard. Blue is not normal bad oil seal. A lot of black might be something like a leaky injector or might just need to be tuned. In some systems might be a bad FPR.
Cheak your oil for fuel you don't want a grenade from your FPR. |

Take it to an independent garage which specializes in GM and get a report on the faults they find. Perhaps get 2 opinions from different garages and then go back to the dealership armed and ready to rumble with your attorney set on speed dial. Be polite but firm in stating this is their last opportunity to repair the car before you escalate.

I would pull the vacuum hose off the FPR and smell for fuel.

I have dealt with a lot of supercharged GM engines both stock and modified including my 2 V-wagons and have never, not once seen what you describe.
As said, black is fuel, which you already know. When a GM engine gets "confused" they generally go full rich as a "safety". Could be anything from an injector to the MAF, MAP, O2s, or any other sensor that brings it to this "safe" mode. Even the various temperature sensors (oil or water) can do it. Did this wonderful dealer look at any other sensor values? My bet is that somewhere there is a sensor with either a 0V or a 5V value. |

Well I've learned some very interesting things with the LT4 engine. 1) There is no fuel pressure regulator, it is all done electronically. 2) There is no return fuel line on the LT4. 3) There is a mechanical fuel pump on the LT4 connected to the camshaft.
With all that, the engine is not throwing any codes and when I check with the scanner running, I'm not seeing anything. More troubleshooting to follow and as much as I hate to do it a trip to the Stealership to be lied to again. |
