my 3 month graph on Lose It showing my daily weight: start at 225, end at 225. up or down 2 lbs either way.

had wanted to get to 222 (50 lb loss from when i started tracking), but my body is telling me that 225 is it's happy size.

i'm 6-5, turn 51 in April. only thing i lack is defined abs. Mrs. DAB is ok with that.

might start hitting the free gym membership that came with my insurance policy this year. they have spin classes. running? nope, get shin splints. very painful.

at some point, your body will say "this is good". listen.

These work wonders for shin splints. http://www.amazon.com/2XU-Non-Stirrup-Compression-Calf-Guard/dp/B00591UO8S/ref=cts_ap_1_fbt
If i run w/o them i have issues and can't run for close to a week afterwards. With them i run 3 times a week 3-5 miles at a clip w/o issue. On a treadmill i can run without them as those machines do a decent job with shock absorption. Try the treadmill without them and see how you do. If it still hurts get some compression sleeves/socks. They are great.

Long "cardio" running is not the best solution. It can actually cause you to gain weight in some situations.

Doing a boot camp plyometric work out might be more fun, and a bit easier on your knees and shins. Even better if you can do HITT work outs, or using something as diabolical as a Prowler.

Spinning class can be fun, just make sure there is a hottie in front of you workin her ass off.... talk about motivation.

My wife and I have been eating pretty healthy for a number of years. However, one thing I loved doing in the afternoon was to have some cheese and crackers (probably at least 2 servings a day) with wine while I watch gunsmoke and the news.

I was slowly creeping up. I am 6' 1" and weighed in at about 266.5. About 2 months ago, we went on a "fad diet". I put that in parenthese as IT is a two week diet to loose weight fast. However, we stayed on it as we think it is just a healthy way to eat. It is Dr. Oz's 2 week diet.

It is very simple, a smoothie for breakfast, almonds for a snack, all the low glycemic vegetables we want and 6 ounces of chicken, turkey or fish a day. Zero wheat, nada. Alcohol is prohibited but I just cut back to a more reasonable level. No caffeine but my wife has a couple of cups a day maybe.

My wife has lost about 17 pounds. I am down to 241.5, a loss of 25 pounds. Again, that is in a two month period. Because I have a bad lower back, I am not able to walk or do much exercise. I have a pretty good little elliptical machine that I used somewhat and will continue.

I have not established my goal weight. I will when I hit 230. This is a diet that I can live with. After I hit we hit our goal, we may introduce some red meat.

I have a problem that I cannot eat much green leafy vegetables so unfortunately not a whole lot of salads but I work in a chopped salad every so often.

This is the easiest weight losing regimen that I have experienced and I do recommend it.

I need to look this one up! No matter what I do, I can't shed the 25 lbs I so want to, maybe this will work.

I now fit into and wear 36" waist pants!

I can't remember the last time that was true. I know in 1993 I wore 40" pants. So it's gotta be before that.

To say that I fell off the wagon would be an understatement. When my wife was pregnant I ballooned to 220lbs and began to have wicked acid reflux. I ended up at a doctor here in Miami trying to get a regular physical. Turns out dude was an "anti-aging and wellness" doc. He didn't want to give me drugs for the acid reflux and proposed a diet for me to lose the 30lbs I had packed on.

That was in March.

Now, I'm 165 and I have never felt better. I have weekly appointments to track progress and monitor my health and it's made a massive difference. I'm just now starting to add fitness back into the mix. My waist is 4 inches smaller and I'm almost back to my high school weight.

Default So I've stayed away from this thread so far

because many of my diet and exercise plans have gone kerflooey in the past. I did want to share my recent journey, though.

Beginning in September I began doing Boot Camp as a result of being prodded to do so (OK, she called me chicken but whatever.)

Operation Boot Camp Knoxville

At the time I tipped the scales at 260 lbs and would get winded in the warmups.

As of this morning the scales have dipped below 240 for the first time since 2001.

Iffen I can do it, anyone can! Go for it guys!

(Still slow as a herd of turtles thundering through peanut butter though)

I've been doing a camp 3x a week (hard one) along with seeing a personal trainer. Lost 20lbs so far (over 2 months). I've been sticking to a 14-1500 meal plan and supplementing vitamins. Glutamine and ZMA are my best friends...

Wicked, 1,500 a day? Is that calorie count given to you by your Personal trainer?

Not sure what your activity/body weight currently is but one must be careful of metabolic damage. Low calories for an extended period of time can reduce your metabolism even tho you lost weight.

Just some food for thought....
T Nation | Carbohydrate Customized Diet

This spring I went with a higher carbohydrate diet and my results long term have been much better.

No way I'm hitting 170 by July.

I am officially PLATEAUED.

Ugh.

I basically hovered at 197 for all of March and April. My average daily intake was 1700 calories.

I got disheartened and went off the rails. 199 lbs now.

I guess under 200, it's just going to be a PITA. I'm trying again now, but I'm going to have to be extremely disciplined. There's not much wiggle room between the bare minimum, 1200 calories, and 1700 where I was stuck in a rut.

I'm going to give up my AM coffee and try to hold out until 10AM for a small protein shake and then Noon for some eggs.

Ugh why couldn't this be as easy as getting to 200 was.

i started at 291 and not well in the ICU, once out, i was at 272 when i started tracking, with a goal of 222. i have been 225+/-2 for about 8 months now. my body tells me it is happy and healthy here. listen to your body, not the numbers on the scale. if you are eating well, and are at a stable weight, you have discovered where your body wants to be. a little fat is ok. all lean leaves you no reserves for a rainy day.

Your going about this all wrong. Do you work out? If so... do you lift weights?

IMO the best thing for fat loss... is a "fasted" cardio. Just hit the stair climber for 30 mins before you eat breakfast.

All of these "low calorie" diets make me very concerned for many of your long term health.

Finally going back in the right direction again. Eating healthy and busting my ass on the pavement. No more excuses, run till it hurts and quit avoiding the damn hills.

I have been gaining weight, but my clothes keep getting bigger on me and my sleeves are almost too tight. Not where I want to be on my pace, but I am keeping steady at 9min/mi now.

I love feeling like this, it is truly rewarding.
