I had tried cigarettes and thought they were disgusting. Still think that. Dabbled in cigars for a couple of years, and while I did enjoy a good cigar, I haven't had one in several years.

The wife smokes and she won't quit until she dies of lung cancer.

Both my parents were heavy smokers, dad was a chain smoker. Definitely shortened his life from all the lung problems.
Mom quit cold turkey numerous times over the years, then one day she'd start back up.

I smoked for somewhere around 32 years and quit eleven years ago. I had a chest X-ray a few weeks ago and was sweating bullets over it. The radiologist’s read could not have been better. I think I’m a mutant because I had a lung capacity test and the tester could not believe I had smoked as long as I told her. Regardless, I would give anything to go back and NOT do it all over again. It was stupid, I knew it was stupid, so I guess I’m ****ing stupid.

My last cigarette was 12/31/1996.

But a few years later, I went back to the Copenhagen, which was my original vehicle for a nicotine buzz. After a few years, it got to be a daily habit again, and I was not happy about it. One night, I don't even know the date (somewhere around 2005-2006), I finished the tin I was working on, and the next day, I was so crazy busy that I didn't get a chance to buy another. Well, the next day, I decided I was pretty busy too . . .

That is how I remain today, I didn't quit, I just ran out and haven't had a chance to buy more yet.

BTW, not sure of your age, BUT...

If you are between 55-74
Have smoked a minimum of 30 PPYhx (pack per day X 30 yrs)
Or have stopped less than 15 years ago, you qualify for a LDLCT

Low dose lung CT to screen for nodules/lung cancer.

In 2013, legislation was passed that insurances had to pay for this screening exam (much like they would a mammogram or colonoscopy)

I quit smoking back in the early 80's. A pack would last me a week, so one day after I finished the last one, never bought any more. I also quit smoking weed in the same time period, but I do grow it in my backyard now for my daughter who has epilepsy. She has a medical card to buy it. In CA, you are allowed to grow up to 6 plants for personal use. I currently have 4 growing in my backyard.
