Default Turned my notice today

Well, it's official. I turned in my two week notice today. I would have been there thirteen years on Oct. 28. Going to the other Nissan dealership in town. They are a larger company and I guess can offer better pay. I'll get bumped about $4500 the first year with yearly raises. I have three weeks yearly vacation where I'm at but get seven days effective Jan 1 and next January five more at the new job. I'll be back up to twelve days in 15 months. Job's pretty much the same so I'm already trained (one reason they wanted me. No six month break-in period.).
Five years ago I got my last raise when I received a job offer. The offer included a $3500 yearly bump. My current employer came back with $3200, so I stayed. Gave my boss my letter today and he asked where I was going. I told him, and he asked if it was much more money. I told him the amount and he said he'd get with the Gen. Mngr. and see what they could do. I replied, "You don't understand. This isn't a ploy to get a raise. I did that once, and shouldn't have to do it again. I've already accepted the position." He replied okay, he understood.
My last day will be Sep 30. I start the new one Oct 3.

Congrats on the new job and best of luck to you. It's sad though when employers don't understand it's not always about the money.

New boss said he doesn't understand their thinking. I have thirteen years there and seven previous in parts stores for a total of twenty years experience. I don't lay out or ask off for frivolous reasons and I have many regular shops that will likely follow me there. He said he doesn't understand why they don't treat their employees better and risk losing someone of my caliber over what, to the company, is so little money. I've known my new boss and another of the guys there for many years, and they are both thrilled for my defection (I guess that's what it is!) and can't wait for me to start.

Yep, I learned this a long time ago. You shouldn't have to quit to get the raise you deserve. Best of luck to you.

Amen sister. There are so many people leaving where I work, it will be a miracle to keep the mission up. I'm full time Air National Guard and can quit the full time part any time I want. I have 19 months left until I have a good 20, and plan on being somewhere else before I get to that point. I can finish as a part timer with the same benefits at the end. Management has shown for too many years that they could care less about the people, and the people are voting with their feet. It's a shame really, because it used to be a great job. Now it's just a place to go collect a paycheck. Gotta be more to life. Oh, and best of luck to ya Badracr!

Good luck...............try not to hit on the boss' wife at the Christmas party this year and you might be able to make it to 13 years.
