I don’t think these auto manufacturers actually believe in the EV, I think it’s expensive virtue signaling.

It’s going to be interesting to see how they react if the market is not there.

That was the case in the early 90s when GM produced the EV-1. The market wasn't there back then, and they crushed almost every one of those cars (except for a couple that went to museums).

Things are just slightly different now.

They can't fail. They'll invest in EVs and when they take a hit and their stock plummets, the government will prop them up and change a few laws that force the purchase of EVs.

They're being forced into it, initially at least, by governments.

Toyota was a holdout, praising the evil gas vehicles. I read somewhere last week that the CEO has been replaced by someone more woke.

The reason I say "if you even can" is because Honda stopped selling their hydrogen fuel cell Clarity, and now that BEV-hater Akio Toyoda has been fired as CEO of Toyota look for the Mirai to be discontinued very shortly.
