Default HVAc folks, I need your help

We have an older model gas furnace that is giving me hell. I keep getting a “ FLAME DETECTOR” error code.

I have pit in new flame detectors, new wiring harness, even Putin a new circuit board a few years ago. The unfit turns o , runs up until the lower motor kicks on. Then the flames go out. I have cleaned the flame detectors, all new wires are correctly connected.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Have the same problem with our upstairs furnace. The one in the attic. It is attached to a Nest thermostat, which is indeed working. My "loving" wife consulted with her friend, the HVAC guy, who said, without looking at it, that it was the Nest thermostat. Now, she constantly spouts its the thermostat, and I claim it isn't. Note that the same thermostat properly controls the A/C, which, of course, is working fine. Every time I mention to call the guy, she has a bitch fit, because of her friend, the HVAC guy. ****ing morons.

One of the things to look at if you've done all this is the surge current on the fan. Have you checked the cap?

Check these...

1. The pressure / vacuum port at the inducer motor can get clogged. Pull off the house and stick a paper clip in there.
2. Check the hose for cracks
3. Check that the switch is operating
4. Check EACH terminal on the control board. I had a loose terminal. There was no electrical connection, but it was physically attached to the terminal.
5. Replace the control board

I had codes 6, 7 and 2 flashing and it was NONE of those things. It was a bad terminal on one of the white/neutral wires.

I just paid $1,800 to fix our 12yo unit. One of the few items in our house, that I’m not willing to work on. Fire, electricity and carbon monoxide? Seems too risky for my experience level.

Good luck.

One of my American Standard units was doing the same thing, call for heat, induction fan starts, flame starts then goes back off. I replaced my flame sensor and it’s been working fine, cost me $8 but I probably got the friends and family discount because I worked for Trane for 23 years.

Even in parts of Hawaii, furnaces and/or fireplaces are needed.

Then again, with heatpump systems for A/C, heating is a given too
