New Slider Door and dog door
We ordered a new 8 foot slider to replace or Single Open French door in September. It arrived last week and we had it installed today. What a difference it makes in the room. WOW. We also had the panel installed for the dog door, the dogs can now come and go as they like. It was getting old opening and closing the door for the dogs all the time.
We also had three storm doors installed, two on the garage doors and the main door. Looks awesome to say the least. When it quits raining I'll snap some pictures. |

I considered a dog/cat door, but the way the cat enjoys bringing in anoles (little lizards) that would be a bad idea. My new senior doggo might also enjoy bringing in wildlife. She barked bloody murder in the middle of the night, I let her out, she made a beeline for an opossum, and grabbed it. I managed to free the opossum, bring the dog in, and a minute later, the opossum got up and meandered off, no harm, no foul. Pretty sure I don't want to wake up to all manner of live or dead wildlife in the house, so a pet door is pretty much a no go.
Waiting for pics of OP's set up, though. |

PLEASE someone ban Il Duce. We’ve had dog doors for over 20 years. As long as you have a fence, it’s a time saver. Never had a rouge visitor either.

Personally I think sliders suck and have removed many of them.
I just reframe for a dog door and put regular doors in or something similar. Fixing to put one in for Bear. |

I hate doggie doors, mostly because it enables assholes to leave their dogs home alone all day while they're at work. Of course the poor dog sits in the back yard, barking and howling all day because he misses his pack.
Not suggesting that the OP is one of these assholes. LOL! |

Pella is the manufacturer, very smooth operation, well made. The blinds inside are awesome. We had a regular door at the old house with the blinds in the glass and my wife loved them. Waiting on the sales person to get back for the price on windows. UGH.
As far as varmint coming in, we've had a dog door for 30 years and never have had a single thing come in. Dogs have not dragged anything in, well the one time the pup tried to bring the tree branch in. We DON'T leave our dogs alone all day. My wife is home most of the day. The door is a convenience to allow them to come and go as they want. If it is hot out they come in, cold well they lay out in the blowing blizzard. I'll take the slider over the French door any day. Each person has their own likes and dislikes. |

Quite a bit off. Going to the 8ft door added a lot of cost on the install side, new header and trim installation. The finished product is well worth it. Glad it was 47 degrees and the wind was out of the east when we had it put in. Once the door was in the heat went and fireplace went on to warm things back up.
