Default ** EMERGENCY ** Stuck on side of highway need advice

I have my dually F350 dually with 6.7L turbo diesel.

The 77 Chevy K20 full time 4x4 is not wanting to run. Probably fuel pump.

Can I switch the full time 4WD transfer case to N, and the transmission to N and tow it with a couple of logging chains? Going about 10-15 miles

Many moons ago I had a 78 Suburban that was full time 4WD. I was possible to do that with mine.

You'll know within a couple feet if it's working.

Put the t-case in N and unlock the front hubs. It’s fine to flat tow.

Unlock the front hubs by turning each counterclockwise, right?

I just checked and I don’t see locking hubs. I’ve switched in and out of 4WD several times and never got out to lock hubs

I think this sounds right, but even if it does roll freely with the older truck's gears in neutral, I'd still want to pull it slowly, like not over 15mph, in case the front axle gearing is in low. I seem to remember back in the day people talked about dropping drive shafts to tow 4wd vehicles back in the day.

Keep us posted. I'd also caution you about how hard it is to stop a truck without the benefit of power brakes. Whoever is helping you needs to be prepared for that, so you don't end up with even bigger issues.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

If you have "just a cover" , it's a splined gear on the axle shaft that fits into the hub.

Millions of Wranglers have been towed behind RVs with the transfer case in neutral. Jeep says it's perfectly fine. They don't have hubs either. I think you're fine.

The owner/operator of the roll back showed up after an hour. He knew how to use the hydraulics to push the truck forward out of the ruts. We got the Cheyenne loaded and delivered to the repair shop.

In future, it is safe to tow if you remove the front driveshaft... no physical connections equals freewheeling at any speed.
