I usually try to buy the $2.99 Pro-Line filters from Pep-Boys because the store brand is just a repackaged Purolator.

Stainless Steel Cleanable and Reusable Oil Filters for your Motorcycle and ATV

Had a similar (stock) unit on my '67 396 Chevelle.
First oil change I did on it, left 5 qts of 40wt oil on my FILs garage floor.
Misplaced, and cut the gasket when I tightened the cannister. Gasket sat on top of the cannister lip,
no groove for it to fit into.

BTW, NAPA branded filters are made by Wix. I read that on the internet, so it must be true.
Like refridgerators, there's only 3 or so manufacturers, so every brand name likely OEMs 10 more names, right?

This is true, both NAPA and CARQUEST are made by Wix. There are only a small handful of companies that actually make filters, Fram, Wix and Champ Labs make maybe 95% of the filters sold. Wix makes most of the program filters and Champ lab the OEM filters. CL also makes Purolator and Group 7 filters.

Royal Purple makes a big stink about their oil filters, Where do they fit on all this?

I'm just going to use this ↓ next time I do an oil change.

Not sure, I know they don't make their own and I know they are not Wix. Hmmm, I think I'll find out.

If they don't make it, it means the documentary on Horsepower TV was fake.

I've used every filter I can think of at one point or another and never had a failure on one. The engines keep lasting, so I'm guessing everything is OK. That may be more due to the fact that I still adhere to 3000 mile changes for the simple reason that it's so dusty here, and in the case of the wife's F150, it gets driven a lot of short distances. I change it every 3K on the F250 as well just because it tows heavy loads frequently.

But there are few things more aggravating than a filter than won't come off and gets mangled in the process.

If that's anything like the documentaries on History channel, you can rest assured Bigfoot uses it without any problems in his UFO.

Is there a filter available with a nut welded onto the bottom and, if so, do you have sufficient room for it? Hastings used to have that feature on all of their filters and I have seen it on others as well. I just checked the Amsoil filters for my LS1 and it does not have the welds on nut.

You're forgetting Baldwin Filters. We used to be a distributor for them for the mining industry a few years back and actually still use their filters on our trucks and on our heavy/light industrial equipment

Yes. I'm still trying to figure out how that qualifies as "History".

Oh yes, I think I saw previews of it. I don't remember which channel, it may be PBS or C-SPAN.
